Shay Mitchell’s daughter isn’t afraid to honestly share her opinions about her mom’s outfits!
The 38-year-old revealed a recent comment made by her and her partner Matte Babel’s oldest child, 6-year-old Atlas Noa, pointing out that they have very similar personalities.
Shay told Erin Lim Rhodes of TopMob News at the 2025 Baby2Baby Gala that even recently, her friend Atlas playfully questioned her outfit, specifically her lipstick choice. Shay, wearing a cream blazer and maxi skirt with mauve lipstick, responded with affection, saying, ‘I love you so much.’ The event took place on November 8th at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood, California.
Turning six has been really exciting and a little wild! That’s just how I’d describe it – it’s awesome.
Shay, who describes herself as “spicy” and is also mom to 2-year-old Rome with Matte, opened up about the joys and difficulties of balancing work and motherhood.
She explained that true balance doesn’t exist. It’s more like a constant back-and-forth. You might feel bad for being away from home when you’re working, and then feel guilty for not being productive when you are home. But she believes you need to accept that feeling as part of life.
When it comes to fashion, Shay Mitchell‘s kids won’t be telling her any pretty little lies.

I still can’t believe Atlas actually asked me if I was really wearing that outfit and if that was the lipstick I chose! I told Erin Lim Rhodes from TopMob News at the Baby2Baby Gala – it was so sweet of him to care, even about something like that. I just wanted to tell him I loved him so much.
The founder of Béis, who stood out in a cream blazer, matching long skirt, and mauve lipstick, described turning six as “really spicy.” She explained, “It’s really fun and spicy, and that’s how I describe it. But it’s awesome.”
Although, like many, Shay is still navigating mom guilt.
She pointed out that true balance doesn’t exist. It’s more like a constant back-and-forth. You might feel bad for being away at work when you wish you were home, and then feel guilty for being at home when you think you should be working. But she believes you have to accept that feeling of always shifting priorities.

We’re figuring it out as we go, and it’s so important to prioritize things that genuinely bring us joy and recharge our batteries. Don’t feel guilty about doing things just for you; filling your own cup is essential, even – and especially – when you’re juggling motherhood.

Shay Mitchell revealed in a May 2024 interview with TopMob News that she often asked her former colleague, Troian Bellisario, for advice when she first became a mother. She was amazed by how Troian managed raising two children – Aurora, 7, and Elliot, 4, with her husband Patrick J. Adams – and admitted she found it overwhelming. Shay said she always knows she can count on Troian, especially now that she’s expecting their third child.
