When Does Primal Season 3 Come Out?
I’m really excited for the third season of Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal, which is coming to Adult Swim on Sunday, January 11th at 11:30 PM Eastern and Pacific time. New episodes will then be available to stream on HBO Max the very next day. The trailers hinted at it, but it’s true: Spear is back, even after sacrificing himself at the end of season two! This season, we’ll see him as an undead creature, and the creator, Genndy Tartakovsky, told ComicBook that this new storyline will be unlike anything we’ve seen before, as it’s the first time the show will focus on an undead version of its main character.
Tartakovsky hinted at an earlier idea for a ‘zombie caveman’ but confirmed they’ve decided to move forward with Spear’s existing storyline. The new season will reveal what happened to him, with the explanation unfolding in the first episode. He emphasized the emotional impact of this approach, noting viewers already have a connection to Spear, making his fate more meaningful than a random character’s. Ultimately, Tartakovsky felt there was still more to explore with Spear’s story.
Why Is Spear a Zombie in Primal Season 3?
I was actually starting to think I was finished with the project, but when I began working on a new idea, it just wasn’t coming together. I kept circling back to this other show, especially because people had really responded well to its second season. I remember thinking, ‘Wow, why did I do that?’ I’d spent twenty episodes building these characters and getting the audience invested, and then I killed one off! It felt natural for the story, but I started wondering if I’d rushed it, if there was more story to tell with that character.
The show’s decision to bring back the character Spear raises a lot of questions. Viewers will be wondering how he returned and what his reappearance means for the future of the series. Will he remain a wandering zombie? You’ll have to watch the new season, premiering this January, to find out!
