Johannes Roberts, the director of ‘Primate’, has spent over 25 years working in horror, creating everything from low-budget independent films to large franchise installments. His newest project is a particularly gruesome horror film centered around a chimpanzee driven to madness by rabies.
I’ve been a big fan of James Nunn’s work for years! It’s amazing how much he’s done, starting with the totally independent ‘Sanitarium’. Even though ‘Alice’ never got a proper release, it’s thankfully up on YouTube, and I loved the crazy practical effects in ‘Roadkill’! He’s done some cool stuff with bigger names too, like Noel Clarke in ‘Storage 24’ and the spooky ‘The Other Side of the Down’. Then, of course, there’s ’47 Metres Down’ which was a massive hit – seriously gripping! He’s also really innovative, being the first to create a short-form series specifically for mobile phones with ‘When Evil Calls’. And the cast he’s worked with is incredible – Kaya Scodelario, Christina Hendricks, Mandy Moore… even Darren Day and, believe it or not, Uri Geller! It’s a really diverse range of projects.
It was a pleasure talking to Johannes, who readily shared details about his films. This interview is definitely one of our favorites!
