Prime Video Just Added One of DreamWorks’ Biggest Movies (But There’s a Problem)

DreamWorks is gearing up for a big 2026 with exciting new movies like Forgotten Island and the long-awaited Shrek 5. In the meantime, Prime Video subscribers can now enjoy one of DreamWorks’ biggest hits from 2024. Amazon has been adding a lot of great content to Prime Video this month, including an animated sequel that significantly boosted its franchise—though there’s a small catch.

Kung Fu Panda 4 is now available for streaming on Prime Video, having joined the platform on January 9th. This fourth installment in the popular DreamWorks series, released in 2024, once again features Jack Black as the voice of Po, who is on a quest to find and train his replacement as the Dragon Warrior. Along the way, he faces off against a powerful villain. While it’s a welcome addition to Prime Video, fans won’t be able to stream the first three Kung Fu Panda movies on the service before watching the latest film.

Kung Fu Panda 4 Was Worth the 8-Year Wait

It had been almost ten years since audiences last saw Po the Dragon Warrior, and the new film, Kung Fu Panda 4, didn’t disappoint. While critics gave it a 71% rating—the lowest in the series—viewers loved it, giving it an 84% score. This makes it the highest-rated Kung Fu Panda movie yet, even surpassing the original film’s impressive 83% audience score.

The latest Kung Fu Panda movie takes the series in a fresh direction, showing real development for Po as he moves beyond being just a warrior and begins to embrace a role as a spiritual leader. This new path challenges him in exciting ways. The story expands the world we know, taking Po to the lively and chaotic Juniper City, and introducing memorable new characters like Zhen, who forms a fun and unexpected partnership with Po. While offering a bigger scope and new adventures, the movie still delivers everything fans love about Kung Fu Panda – the hilarious comedy, beautiful animation, and thrilling action, which are better than ever before.

Kung Fu Panda 4 was both a critical and commercial success, earning $547 million worldwide. This surpassed the earnings of the previous film ($521 million) and brought the entire Kung Fu Panda franchise’s total box office revenue over $2 billion. It ranked as the ninth-highest-grossing movie of 2024 and is one of DreamWorks’ most successful sequels, becoming the studio’s 13th-highest-grossing film ever. While a fifth Kung Fu Panda movie hasn’t been officially announced, producer Jeff Mitchell has expressed interest in making another sequel, and would like to feature The Furious Five more prominently.

What’s New on Prime Video?

In addition to Kung Fu Panda 4, Prime Video is offering a variety of movies in January. Families can enjoy titles like Are We There Yet? and The Angry Birds Movie, while more mature audiences might prefer Alien: Romulus, Final Destination: Bloodlines, or Meg 2: The Trench.
