Prime Video Just Added One of the Best Movies of 2025 (And It’s a Lot Funnier Than You Expect)

Prime Video is ending the year strong with some great new movie additions. This week, they added a highly-rated and incredibly entertaining film – a recent adventure by Wes Anderson that’s proving to be even funnier than fans anticipated.

The movie is called The Phoenician Scheme, and it’s a surprisingly funny comedy now available on Prime Video. It stars Benicio del Toro as an arms dealer who keeps dodging attempts on his life while trying to get his daughter to run the family business. The plot is pretty crazy, but it really works!

Guillermo del Toro is the biggest draw in The Phoenician Scheme, but the film also features a fantastic supporting cast. Alongside leads Mia Threapleton and Michael Cera, you’ll see stars like Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Riz Ahmed, Scarlett Johansson, Jeffrey Wright, Benedict Cumberbatch, Willem Dafoe, and Bill Murray.

Like other films by this director, The Phoenician Scheme has a distinctive style that might not appeal to everyone immediately. However, it’s worth watching, as it’s one of his most lighthearted and easy-to-enjoy movies. Having initially found his storytelling difficult to get into, I was instantly charmed by this film’s humor and appeal.

What’s New on Prime Video?

Prime Video is planning a strong December, adding several hit movies that were previously only available on other streaming services. The Phoenician Scheme will be the first of these additions, with even more popular titles arriving later in the month.

Highly praised and widely discussed, the movie Sinners will be available on Prime Video starting December 26th. That week, Prime Video will also add the popular film A Minecraft Movie and the hilarious comedy The Naked Gun.

On top of everything else, Prime Video has added a lot of fantastic movies early this month. December 1st was a particularly big day for new releases, bringing films like Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Mad Max, and Zombieland to the platform. All 15 seasons of Supernatural are also now available. You’ll find a complete list of what was added on December 1st below.

Here’s a list of movies and TV shows: 12 Angry Men (1957), A Haunting in Venice, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, Bloodsport, Bull Durham, Death on the Nile (2022), Dog (2022), Double Impact, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Hackers, Hoosiers, Igor, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), Love Actually, Mad Max (1980), Madagascar, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Max (2015), Max 2: White House Hero, Notting Hill, Out of Time, Penguins of Madagascar, Platoon, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, The Birdcage, The Man in the Iron Mask, The Prodigy, Zombieland, Supernatural (Seasons 1-15), and The Merchants of Joy (2025).
