2025 was a fantastic year for horror movies, with big successes at the box office, positive reviews, and the return of popular franchises. Films like Sinners, Weapons, and 28 Years Later helped the genre stay strong in theaters, and that momentum is expected to continue in 2026 with upcoming movies such as Scream 7 and Send Help. Now, horror fans can enjoy one of 2025’s biggest hits, as it’s now available to stream on Prime Video.
The horror film Final Destination: Bloodlines earned $315 million at the box office in 2025, making it the third highest-grossing horror movie of the year, behind The Conjuring: Last Rites and Sinners. Directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, and written by Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor, it’s the sixth installment in the Final Destination series. The story follows a college student who begins experiencing frightening visions inherited from her grandmother, who narrowly escaped death years before. It became available on Prime Video on January 1st and is currently the fourth most popular movie in the U.S. on the platform.
Final Destination Bloodlines Successfully Revived the Horror Franchise
The Final Destination series made a huge comeback after a 14-year break with its latest installment, Bloodlines. The film was a box office success and received the best reviews of any movie in the franchise. It earned a “Certified Fresh” score of 92% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, significantly higher than Final Destination 5’s 64%. Audiences also loved it, giving it an 86% rating – well above the 68% the original film received.
The incredible success of Bloodlines is truly earned. Unlike previous films in the series, which had mixed results, Bloodlines was a resounding triumph, hailed by critics as a thrilling and wild ride from beginning to end, and the best installment yet. The movie cleverly revisited the franchise’s origins with intense action, while also introducing a fresh concept: Death pursuing the families of those who previously survived. It masterfully builds tension and keeps audiences gripped, but also balances the horror with genuine emotional depth and moments of humor.
Bloodlines is a fantastic movie for both dedicated fans and those new to the Final Destination series. It successfully breathed new life into the franchise, ensuring it will continue for years to come. Currently, Final Destination 7 is in the works, with Bloodlines co-writer Lori Evans Taylor returning to write the screenplay. Director Michiel Blanchart is also reportedly being considered. Details about the plot and when the movie will be released haven’t been announced yet.
