Zombie movies consistently draw audiences, and for good reason. They often play on our deepest fears, examine what it means to be human in extreme situations, and combine scary thrills with insightful social messages. This makes zombies a classic horror element that consistently proves popular at the box office. With new films like 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple and We Bury the Dead on the horizon in 2026, fans can now enjoy a sequel to one of the greatest zombie movies ever made – and it lives up to the original’s quality.
Prime Video kicked off the new year with a large update to its streaming library on January 1st, adding many new movies and shows, including Zombieland: Double Tap. This sequel to the popular zombie comedy Zombieland—also available on Prime Video—reunites the original cast: Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin, and Emma Stone. They reprise their roles as Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita, and Little Rock, venturing out from the White House on a road trip to Graceland, where they meet new people and face even more dangerous zombies.
Zombieland: Double Tap Was Worth the 10-Year Wait
Despite a ten-year wait, fans were still excited for the sequel to Zombieland, called Double Tap, and the movie didn’t disappoint. Double Tap actually earned more at the box office than the first film, bringing in $125 million worldwide. Critics gave it a 68% rating, but audiences loved it even more, with an 88% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The sequel successfully captured the humor, action, and zombie thrills of the original, delivering a highly enjoyable experience. It also expanded the Zombieland universe with new settings, characters, and even more challenging zombies, all while staying true to what made the first movie so popular.
It’s been over six years since the hit movie Double Tap, but fans are still waiting for a third Zombieland film. While Zombieland 3 isn’t officially confirmed, director Ruben Fleischer recently told Deadline he’s hoping to make it in 2029. He explained that Double Tap ended with a hint of a ten-year gap, and now that time is approaching, they’re beginning to explore the possibility of a sequel.
