I’ve always loved when comedy and horror mix – it’s such a great combo! Movies like Shaun of the Dead, Scary Movie, and even newer films like The Menu manage to be genuinely funny and scary at the same time. As a Prime Video subscriber, I was so excited to hear that one of the all-time best horror comedies is now available to stream – it joined the platform in December and I immediately checked it out!
Starting December 1st, you can watch Zombieland on Prime Video. This hilarious 2009 film, directed by Ruben Fleischer, follows four people – Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), Wichita (Emma Stone), and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) – as they travel across the US looking for a safe place in Los Angeles. They have a set of rules to help them survive and fight off zombies along the way.
Zombieland Is One of the Best Zombie Movies Ever, and a Third Film Could Finally Be on the Way
I’m a huge zombie movie fan, and while the genre really took off with George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead, and there have been so many since, Zombieland is seriously one of my favorites. It felt like a total blast of fresh air! It had all the scary stuff and gore you expect, but it also had a surprising amount of heart and was just laugh-out-loud funny. I loved Columbus’ survival rules – “Cardio” and “Double Tap” are classics – and the action was non-stop. Plus, the writing was brilliant! Tallahassee’s lines, like “Time to nut up or shut up” and his Titanic joke, still crack me up. And honestly, Bill Murray showing up as himself was just perfect. It gave me both thrills and tons of laughs!
When Zombieland came out, it was a big success, earning over $102 million worldwide and becoming one of the most popular zombie movies in the U.S. Critics loved it too, with an 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. A sequel, Zombieland: Double Tap, followed in 2019. While the sequel also did well, it’s been six years since then. However, a third film, Zombieland 3, might be coming soon. Director Ruben Fleischer recently told Deadline he’s aiming for a 2029 release, continuing the ten-year pattern between films, and that they are now starting to plan it.
What’s New on Prime Video?
Prime Video is adding a lot of great movies this December! Along with titles like Zombieland, subscribers can now stream Four Weddings and a Funeral, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and several Madagascar movies. Throughout the month, even more films, including Bullet Train, The Phoenician Scheme, and Transformers: The Last Knight, have become available, giving viewers plenty of fresh content to enjoy.
