Get ready for a touch of enchantment! Prime Video has announced the official release date for its new series, The House of the Spirits.
The new limited series, based on Isabel Allende’s popular novel, will premiere on April 29th – it’s coming soon!
Isabel Allende’s The House of the Spirits is a landmark novel of magical realism, following the Trueba family through several generations. It quickly became a bestseller and made Allende an internationally recognized author.
This sweeping family story, reminiscent of Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s work, centers on Clara, Blanca, and Alba. It follows their lives as they grapple with the social and political changes happening in an unnamed Latin American nation, and how these events deeply affect their family.
I’m so excited about this new series! It’s being led by an incredible team – Francisca Alegría, Fernanda Urrejola, and Andrés Wood – and everyone at Prime Video is saying it’s their biggest Latin American original yet. It sounds like they’re really going all out with this one, and I can’t wait to see it.

Javiera Balmaceda, who leads original content for Prime Video in Latin America, Canada, and Australia, said the project demonstrates the company’s continued commitment to showcasing great stories worldwide (according to Variety).
Allende, also an executive producer on the project, explained that the miniseries finally realized her original vision for the story, saying it was ‘what it always should have been’.
The author appears to have been very open to how her work was adapted for the show. According to Deadline, the showrunners said she was comfortable letting them make necessary changes, even suggesting they could remove characters if the story required it.
According to co-showrunner Urrejola, telling the story of The House of the Spirits from a female perspective is particularly meaningful today, as it highlights the destructive impact of patriarchal systems.
She explained that we’re currently dealing with the long-lasting damage caused by traditional societal structures and trying to rebuild with a focus on feminine values. That’s what makes this show so relevant and captivating right now.
I spoke with the show’s creator, and she explained that she and the team – including Eva Longoria’s Hyphenate Media Group – really wanted to tell this story now because, frankly, we all need a little bit of escapism and wonder right now. It’s a story that leans into magical realism, and she feels it’s exactly what audiences are craving in these challenging times.
The House of the Spirits will arrive on Prime Video on 29 April.
