With December here, many people are starting to watch Christmas movies on streaming services. While there are plenty of beloved holiday classics, one film often feels out of place: Love Actually. Everyone has their favorites, and nostalgia certainly plays a role, but Love Actually hasn’t aged particularly well and doesn’t hold up as strongly more than two decades after it was first released.
The 2003 Christmas movie, known for causing a bit of a stir, is still popular today, largely because of the many memes created from the famous scene where Andrew Lincoln says, “To Me, You Are Perfect.” Now, as of December 1st, it’s even easier to watch – it’s available on Prime Video.
People tend to either really love or really dislike Love Actually (I definitely fall into the latter group). Looking back, the movie hasn’t held up well over the years, and it’s hard to understand what initially appealed to audiences. While the cast is fantastic, many of the plotlines are predictable and some are even problematic.
Despite a few questionable characters and plot points, the film boasts an incredibly talented cast. It features major stars like Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Bill Nighy, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, Martin Freeman, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Andrew Lincoln, Keira Knightley, Laura Linney, and the late Alan Rickman.
New Movies on Prime Video
Prime Video didn’t add a ton of new content at the beginning of December, fewer titles than usual, but there were still some new things to watch. Surprisingly, only Love Actually was added as a big holiday movie on December 1st. However, Prime Video did release the original Christmas film Oh. What. Fun., featuring a lot of well-known actors, a few days after that.
I was a little surprised by how many new releases Prime Video had this month, but the beginning of December turned out to be pretty solid! They added all fifteen seasons of Supernatural, which is awesome, and a bunch of fun movies like Madagascar, Zombieland, Bull Durham, and the classic Invasion of the Body Snatchers. If you want to see everything that landed on Prime Video on December 1st, check out the full list below.
Here’s a list of movies and TV shows: 12 Angry Men (1957), A Haunting in Venice, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, Bloodsport, Bull Durham, Death on the Nile (2022), Dog (2022), Double Impact, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Hackers, Hoosiers, Igor, Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), Love Actually, Mad Max (1980), Madagascar, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Max (2015), Max 2: White House Hero, Notting Hill, Out of Time, Penguins of Madagascar, Platoon, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, The Birdcage, The Man in the Iron Mask, The Prodigy, Zombieland, Supernatural (Seasons 1-15), and The Merchants of Joy (2025).
