Prime Video’s Returning Historical Epic TV Show Becomes a Top 5 Streaming Hit in the U.S.

The historical drama House of David became a surprise success for Prime Video when it premiered in February 2025. Based on the story of Biblical David, the series quickly became popular and was renewed for a second season. Now, just after the release of Season 2, House of David is once again a streaming sensation.

Okay, so I’ve been keeping an eye on things over at FlixPatrol, and this little series, House of David, has been a surprisingly big hit! It first dropped on Prime Video in October, but you needed the Wonder Project add-on to watch it. Then, on March 27th, it became available to everyone, and it shot up to number 5 on their charts! As of the end of the month, on the 31st, it’s still hanging in there at number 6 in the Top 10. Pretty cool, right?

House of David Has Received Game of Thrones Comparisons

Set in ancient Israel around 1000 BC, House of David tells the story of the biblical figure David. The first season follows David’s journey from a young shepherd chosen by the prophet Samuel to become king, showcasing the obstacles he faces. It culminates in his famous battle with Goliath. However, becoming king isn’t just about winning battles. As David rises to power, he also contends with the schemes of a son of the current king, Saul, who sees David as a threat to his own claim to the throne.

The series House of David has drawn comparisons to Game of Thrones due to its political intrigue and epic scope, with some viewers hoping it will fill the void left by the HBO drama. While House of David is rooted in a biblical story, it presents the tale in a historically grounded way that aims to appeal to a broad audience, regardless of their beliefs. The show ultimately delivers a dramatic story of one man’s journey to power and the challenges he faces – a narrative that strongly resembles the feel of Game of Thrones.

As a huge fan of compelling dramas, I’m excited to share that the first two seasons of ‘House of David’ are now available to stream on Prime Video! The cast is fantastic – you’ve got Michael Iskander, Ali Suliman, Indy Lewis, Ethan Kai, Oded Fehr, Yali Topol Margalith, Davood Ghadami, Ayelet Zurer, and Aury Alby all bringing their talent to the show. Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for something new to watch.
