Although Maxton Hall and The Summer I Turned Pretty are quite different, both shows from Prime Video in December 2025 share a key similarity. The ending of The Summer I Turned Pretty‘s third season creates uncertainty about the future of the series, as Belly appears to have made a final decision about which of the Fisher brothers she chooses.
It’s difficult to predict what the upcoming movie based on The Summer I Turned Pretty will be about. However, it’s easier to understand why Amazon is making a movie to conclude the series. Despite potential story challenges, the show’s popularity clearly warrants a continuation in film format.

Amazon’s The Summer I Turned Pretty, based on Jenny Han’s popular novels, has become a huge success – even more so than her previous Netflix movies, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. As of December 2025, only Maxton Hall—The World Between Us has attracted a larger audience.
The German TV series Maxton Hall is based on Mona Kasten’s novel Save Me. It centers on Rudy Bell, a talented student who earns a scholarship to the exclusive Maxton Hall. There, he unexpectedly falls for James Beaufort, a wealthy and confident legacy student who seems to have it all.
Despite the heartbreaking conclusion to season 2 of Maxton Hall, the show has still attracted a huge audience. In fact, the German series became Prime Video’s most popular show for the week starting December 2025, surpassing The Summer I Turned Pretty – a surprising result that points to a shift in what viewers are watching.
Prime Video’s Successful Shows Prove Teen Romance Shows Can Be Huge

Teen romance novels are proving popular on streaming platforms, as evidenced by Prime Video’s top shows. Even though reboots of Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars didn’t succeed in 2021 and 2022, streaming services are still willing to invest heavily in new series based on beloved teen romance books.
It wasn’t unexpected, as Netflix had already seen success with popular movies like The Kissing Booth and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before – even if critics weren’t always impressed. Before Maxton Hall became a hit on Amazon, these Netflix films proved there was an audience for this type of content.
As a film and TV buff, I’ve noticed that just because a show was popular in the early 2000s and based on a book doesn’t mean a reboot is automatically a hit. But, seeing Maxton Hall and The Summer I Turned Pretty doing so well on Prime Video really shows me there’s a big appetite for fresh teen book adaptations on streaming platforms – there’s definitely potential there!
