Prime Video’s Underrated Thriller Series Continues Streaming Dominance (but It Won’t Last)

The Prime Video thriller series 56 Days has been a surprising hit, consistently ranking as one of the most-watched shows since its release on February 18th. Despite mixed reviews from critics (currently at 58% on Rotten Tomatoes), audiences are captivated by its mysteries, suspense, and unexpected turns – many even prefer its conclusion to the original book. However, 56 Days‘ reign at the top is about to end with the arrival of a new series tomorrow.

As of March 3rd, 56 Days is still the most-watched TV show on Prime Video, according to FlixPatrol. It’s been in the top 10 for 12 days, and has held the number one spot for the majority of that time. However, that run is expected to end tomorrow with the release of Young Sherlock on Amazon Prime Video.

56 Days About to be Overtaken by Young Sherlock

If you enjoy thriller mysteries, 56 Days is a great choice for streaming. The series tells a story across two timelines: one following the blossoming romance between Ciara (Dove Cameron) and Oliver (Avan Jogia), and another detailing a murder investigation that begins 56 days later. As Ciara and Oliver fall for each other, it becomes clear they’re both hiding secrets that could tear them apart. The eight episodes alternate between their love story and the investigation led by detectives Lee (Karla Souza) and Karl (Dorian Missick), who are also dealing with their own personal issues.

Popular shows don’t stay at the top forever – once most people know how they end, viewership usually declines. After a couple of weeks, audiences are ready for something fresh, and that’s where Young Sherlock comes in. This new series is based on Andrew Lane’s Young Sherlock Holmes books, and it’s directed by Guy Ritchie, who previously found huge success with the Sherlock Holmes films starring Robert Downey Jr.

The new series features Hero Fiennes Tiffin as a young Sherlock Holmes – a 19-year-old student at Oxford University who hasn’t yet become the famous detective everyone knows. He’s still a brilliant, but undisciplined, mind. In this Prime Video series, Holmes tackles his first murder case, which quickly unfolds into a much larger, worldwide conspiracy.

Similar to the show 56 Days, all eight episodes of Young Sherlock will be released on Prime Video at once on March 4th. However, Young Sherlock is likely to become even more popular, as the trailer generated record-breaking views. Released in January, the initial teaser has already garnered over 13 million views, and the full trailer, released three weeks ago, has reached 25 million views. It’s clear that Young Sherlock is poised to be a huge success.
