Both Reacher and Cross are popular shows on the streaming service. Cross has climbed back into the Top 10 most-watched shows just before its second season begins next month.
I’m really surprised and excited to see that Cross is doing so well on Prime Video! It’s currently at number 8, which is amazing. Even cooler, it actually debuted above Reacher on the Top 10 TV shows list – I know Reacher was holding strong for a while, so that’s a big deal! Reacher is still hanging in there at number 10. The rest of the top 10 is filled with stuff like shows from Mr. Beast and adaptations of popular series like Fallout and Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. It’s a pretty interesting mix right now!
Similar to the show Reacher, Cross is based on a popular book series—the Alex Cross novels by James Patterson. Ben Watkins developed this crime thriller for Prime Video, and the first season debuted in November 2024.
Aldis Hodge now plays Alex Cross, a detective in Washington D.C. who specializes in forensic psychology and homicide cases. Previously, Morgan Freeman played the character in the movies Kiss the Girls (1997) and Along Came a Spider (2001), and Tyler Perry took on the role in the 2012 film Alex Cross.
The series Cross centers around its main character and his partner, Detective John Sampson (played by Isaiah Mustafa), as they track down some of the country’s most dangerous criminals. Interestingly, this Prime Video show isn’t based on any of James Patterson’s existing books. Creator Alan Watkins explained in 2024 that he intends each season to function as a standalone story; Season 1 is titled Hero Complex, and Season 2 is called Bitter Fruit.
Some fans might be hoping to see storylines from the popular Alex Cross novels adapted for the show, but James Patterson actually prefers original mysteries for his famous detective. He explained in September 2024 that he always encourages creators to develop new stories when adapting his books or characters.
Cross Season 2 Wrapped Filming Two Years Ago
The popular series Cross is returning for a second season on February 11th. Surprisingly, even though it’s been 15 months since the first season, the new episodes were already filmed and in editing before the initial season even premiered on Prime Video. As Watkins shared last year, production on Season 2 was completed before Season 1 was released – a very unusual situation that has caught many people off guard.
Season 2 of Cross is adding Jeanine Mason, Wes Chatham, Matthew Lillard, and Michelle C. Bonilla to the cast. They’ll be working alongside returning favorites like Hodge, Mustafa, Juanita Jennings, and Alona Tal.
Cross is available to stream on Prime Video.
