Prince William is reflecting on his and Prince Harry’s royal upbringing.
The Prince of Wales briefly spoke about his younger brother-with whom he currently has a strained relationship-while discussing what future role his son, Prince George, will have as king.
“There’s a lot to consider with all of this,” William shared with Eugene Levy on the October 3rd installment of The Reluctant Traveler, according to People. “But most importantly, I want to build something that makes my son proud, and a career that genuinely makes a positive difference in people’s lives.”
The 43-year-old-who is a parent to George, 12, and also to Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, with his wife Kate Middleton-explained that to plan for what’s ahead, it’s important to remember lessons from the past.
He added that this comes with the hope that we avoid repeating past issues that Harry and I experienced while growing up. He stated he will do everything possible to prevent a return to those conditions.
As a longtime follower of the Royal Family, it’s been really sad to see how little contact Prince William-next in line to the throne-seems to have had with Prince Harry, who’s now 41. Ever since Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, decided to step back from their senior royal duties in 2020, things just haven’t been the same. They quickly moved to California with their son, Prince Archie, who was just a little one at 6 years old, and then welcomed their daughter, Princess Lilibet, who is now 4, in 2021. It’s a difficult situation to watch as a devoted follower.
It’s been over three years since the brothers were last pictured together. Their last public appearance together was at the funeral of their grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, in September 2022.
Besides his complicated relationship with his older brother, Harry has also found it difficult to connect with his father, King Charles III, after moving away from the U.K. They did manage to meet for tea in September at the 76-year-old’s home in London, which was the first time they’d seen each other in person for nearly a year and a half.
When asked about his father-who had revealed his cancer diagnosis in February 2024-Harry responded, according to Sky News, with a simple, “Yes, he’s great, thank you.”

In September 2025, Sarah, Duchess of York, was removed as a patron of Julia’s House after a 2011 email to Jeffrey Epstein came to light. In the email, she referred to him as a friend.
After details emerged this weekend regarding the Duchess of York’s communication with Jeffrey Epstein, Julia’s House has decided it’s no longer appropriate for her to serve as a patron of the organization,” the charity said in a statement, as reported by The Guardian. “We’ve informed the Duchess of York of our decision and are grateful for her previous contributions.”
A representative for Ferguson stated that the email exchange happened following a threat made against her by Epstein.
After a gap of 19 months, Prince Harry-the Duke of Sussex-was spotted arriving at Clarence House-the King’s home in London-apparently to visit his father before attending another event in the city.
Harry arrived at the home around 5:20 p.m. local time on September 10th, but Charles had come back just a few hours earlier.
After dating for over a year, the son of Princess Anne and Mark Phillips announced his engagement to Harriet Sperling on August 1st.
The couple’s representative shared in a statement to Hello! at the time, that “both families were told together about the news, and they were all very happy to hear about the engagement.”
Just a day before turning 78, the royal was given the honorary title of Vice Admiral of the United Kingdom by the Royal Navy.
Camilla is the first woman to receive this honorary title. It can only be given by the monarch-in this case, her husband, King Charles III-after a recommendation from the First Sea Lord, who is currently Sir Gwyn Jenkins.
Just hours before she was scheduled to attend, The Princess of Wales canceled her planned appearance at Royal Ascot, NBC News confirmed with Kensington Palace. This means she will not be joining the annual horse race as previously expected.
The palace stated that Kate was saddened to be unable to attend the event. She is still working to find a comfortable level of activity as she continues to recover from her cancer treatment and decides which public appearances she can manage.
More than a year after being denied extra security by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee, Prince Harry’s lawsuit concluded on May 2 when the courts rejected his claim.
Following their decision to step down as active royals in 2021 and relocate to the United States, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s security arrangements were reduced. Nevertheless, in subsequent years, Harry made requests for security coverage during trips to the U.K.
Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, shared with the BBC on May 2nd that he was deeply upset about the outcome of his recent legal fight. He stated, “I don’t foresee a situation where I would bring my wife and children back to the UK right now.”
On May 2, Harry shared with the BBC that his father, King Charles III, isn’t currently speaking to him “due to issues with security,” but he expressed hope that they “could make amends.”
Prince Harry, also known as the Duke of Sussex, shares two children – Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet – with Meghan Markle. He has expressed a desire to rebuild his relationship with his family, but it’s up to his father to make the first move.
He stated, “I don’t foresee a situation where I’d return to the U.K. with my wife and children right now.” He added, “It’s truly upsetting that I won’t have the opportunity to show my children where I grew up.”
You know, as someone who looks at family dynamics a lot, I’ve been thinking about this situation, and it really comes down to my father having a lot of power here. Ultimately, he holds the key to resolving everything. I believe it’s not about him jumping in and fixing things directly, but rather about him stepping back and letting the people who *know* what they’re doing – the experts – take the lead and continue their work. It’s about trusting the process and allowing things to unfold naturally.
Even after many years of fighting, he is now seeking peace and a chance to make amends. He explained, “Life is valuable, and I don’t know how much time my father has left.”
More than a year after King Charles revealed he had cancer, he wrote on April 29 that going through his health challenges and cancer treatment has highlighted “the very best of humanity.” He described the experience as bringing this positive aspect into sharp focus.
Oh my gosh, reading what Charles wrote just *gets* it, you know? He said that every single diagnosis, every new case… it’s going to be so scary and overwhelming for those people and everyone who loves them. But then – and this is the part that really hit me – he said that *as* someone who’s been through it himself, he knows it can also bring out the absolute best in people. It’s like, even in the darkness, there’s so much good. He wrote this for a resource booklet at a reception for people with cancer, and honestly, it’s just… perfect. It’s like he’s speaking directly to me, reminding me that even though it’s terrifying, we’re not alone and there’s still so much hope. I just want to share this with everyone!
He expressed his gratitude to the healthcare professionals who assisted him, stating, “This experience has strengthened my respect for the incredible work done by the outstanding organizations and people here tonight – many of whom I’ve known, visited, and supported for years.”
On April 20, Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis were absent from the royal family’s traditional Easter service held at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.
I was so interested to hear how everyone celebrated! While King Charles III and Queen Camilla were enjoying the festivities with the rest of the family, I learned from multiple outlets that William and Kate chose a quieter weekend. They decided to stay at their country home in Norfolk with their kids, which sounds lovely, really. It’s nice to see them having some family time.
This was the second Easter they missed. It happened just a week after the Princess of Wales shared news of her cancer diagnosis.
Jason Knauf was appointed the new Chief Executive Officer of Prince William’s environmental initiative, The Earthshot Prize, on April 15th. In a statement published on the organization’s website, he expressed his excitement about “working with our exceptional team and incredible Earthshot community to further our goal of hopeful and immediate action for the planet.”
He received a promotion almost seven years after he reported concerns about Meghan Markle, claiming she had bullied two personal assistants and attempted to undermine another colleague. Representatives for the Sussexes refuted these claims, telling The Times that the story was a “calculated smear campaign” fueled by false and damaging information.
Following the claims, Buckingham Palace conducted an investigation. The case was concluded in 2022, but the results were not released to the public.
William and Kate’s eldest son George attended a soccer match in Paris alongside his dad April 7.
The father and son looked very happy while watching the UEFA Champions League Quarter Final match between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa FC at the Parc des Princes stadium. They were clearly enjoying the game.
Graham Craker, a former bodyguard to members of the royal family – including Prince Harry and Prince William – passed away in April at the age of 77.
Craker was present with the boys when they found out their mother, Princess Diana, had passed away, and he took part in the services held for her funeral.
You know, as someone who’s spent a lot of time thinking about how we handle grief and final farewells, I always find the small moments the most touching. I was speaking with Craker a few years back, and he shared a really poignant memory with The New York Post in 2017. He was standing near the back of the hearse, and Prince William actually looked up and acknowledged him. Craker nodded back, and it was clear that William felt a sense of comfort knowing his mother was accompanied on her final journey by someone he trusted. It just goes to show how much even a simple gesture can mean during such a difficult time.
Hugh Grosvenor, the godson of King Charles III, and his wife, Olivia Grosvenor, shared the happy news on March 12th that they are expecting their first child.
A spokesperson shared with The Telegraph that the duchess is due to have a baby this summer. The couple expressed their joy about the pregnancy and said they are excited to begin their journey as a family together.
Prince Frederik-the son of Prince Robert and Princess Julie-passed away on March 1st at the age of 22 following a struggle with PolG mitochondrial disease, a rare inherited condition.
Robert stated, “Frederik is like a superhero to me, just as he is to our whole family and countless friends, and now, thanks to his PolG Foundation, to people all around the globe.” He continued, “A key part of what made Frederik special was his talent for inspiring others and leading through his own actions.”
On January 22nd, Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, reached an agreement with News Group Newspapers-the publisher of The Sun and the now-closed News of the World-after he sued them in 2019. The lawsuit claimed that journalists and investigators working for the newspapers illegally obtained information about the royal family.
The agreement involved the company paying significant compensation and offering a complete and clear apology to Prince Harry, along with publicly recognizing the widespread media attention and severe invasion of privacy he and Diana, Princess of Wales experienced, according to NBC News.
On January 14th, The Princess of Wales shared the wonderful news that her cancer treatment has been completed and she is now in remission.
She shared on X (formerly Twitter) on January 14th that she was relieved to be in remission and is continuing to focus on getting better. She added that, like anyone who’s been diagnosed with cancer, it’s a process to get used to life as it is now.
As for me, I’m really excited about the year ahead – I truly believe it’s going to be a good one! There’s just so much to anticipate and enjoy. I’m feeling optimistic, and I think everyone should take a moment to consider all the positive possibilities. The future is bright, and I’m eager to see what unfolds.
Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, was saddened by the passing of her cherished rescue beagle, a dog she welcomed into her life in 2015, before she met her husband, Prince Harry.
On January 7th, she shared a post on Instagram saying, “I’ve cried so much – countless tears that make you want to hide in the shower, hoping the water will wash away the pain or make you forget about it. But the feelings remain, and that’s alright too.”
“Thank you for all the years of unwavering love, my dear Guy,” Meghan shared. “You brought so much joy into my life, more than words can say.”
Edward “Ed” Pettifer-the stepson of Alexandra Pettifer (also known as Tiggy Legge-Bourke), who used to be a nanny to Prince William and Prince Harry-was tragically killed in the terrorist attack that happened in New Orleans on New Year’s Day.

In June 2025, Kate and William were seen enjoying a special trip to Wimbledon with their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. It was a rare public appearance for the family.
It’s wonderful to be back in SW19 for the finals of this year’s @wimbledon Championships this weekend,” the family shared in an Instagram post. “Congratulations again to @iga.swiatek and @janniksin on your victories! And a big thank you to everyone who helped make the tournament so memorable.”
