Prince William recently had a dream come true for any Doctor Who fan: he visited the show’s famous set and got to go inside the TARDIS! It’s safe to say many fans were a little envious.
As a film buff, I was really interested to hear that Prince William, as president of BAFTA, recently visited Bad Wolf Studios in Cardiff. He actually recorded a special message that’s going to be played tonight at the Welsh Baftas – they’re being held in Newport, which is fantastic news for the local film community!
While touring Bad Wolf Studios – where shows like Doctor Who and His Dark Materials are filmed – the Prince had the chance to step inside the iconic TARDIS, just like every actor who has played the Doctor, from the very first, William Hartnell, to the current one, Ncuti Gatwa.
Pictures from his visit reveal him exploring the famous set, looking inside the Fifteenth Doctor’s TARDIS, and posing at the main console. See photos from his visit below!

I also got to visit the set of this really cool period drama called The Other Bennet Sister – it’s not out until 2026, but it looks amazing! It was also great meeting some of the people who are benefiting from the Prince William Bursary – such a worthwhile program.
I recently got a peek behind the scenes at Bad Wolf Studios in Cardiff, and it was a genuinely lovely experience. Kensington Palace shared some highlights online – I got to meet incredibly talented trainees supported by BAFTA and Screen Alliance Wales, wander through the sets of both ‘The Other Bennet Sister’ and, yes, ‘Doctor Who’ – a huge thrill! But the real highlight? Spending time with the students at St Albans RC Primary School, getting involved in a really creative puppetry workshop. It was a fantastic visit all around, and a reminder of the incredible work being done to nurture the next generation of filmmakers.
Both the BAFTA bursary and Bad Wolf Studios are nurturing the next wave of creative professionals, spanning historical dramas to imaginative, futuristic stories. Congratulations to everyone who made this possible, and best wishes to the nominees tonight!
Throughout its long history, the BBC’s *Doctor Who* has featured several encounters with the royal family. A memorable example is when David Tennant’s Doctor saved Buckingham Palace from being destroyed in the 2007 Christmas episode, “Voyage of the Damned.”
But, after his visit, could the Prince be open to a cameo in future? Stranger things have happened!
