Moviegoers might think there’s no post-credits scene in Project Hail Mary, and they’d be right to assume so. Directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller haven’t used that trick in any of their films before. However, their 2014 film 22 Jump Street featured a lengthy credits sequence that playfully hinted at future installments, even jokingly showing posters and clips for sequels all the way up to 43 Jump Street.
Unlike some movies, Project Hail Mary wraps up its story completely by the time the credits start. While there’s always room for more stories in the future, the film doesn’t leave any major plot points unresolved, needing a post-credits scene to explain them or hint at a sequel. If you’re seeing the movie now or reading this before you do, there is something after the credits, but it’s brief – don’t expect a full scene. Be warned: spoilers ahead!
Project Hail Mary Has A Post-Credit Moment for Loyal Fans

While Project Hail Mary largely relies on Ryan Gosling’s performance as Dr. Ryland Grace, the alien Rocky is a standout part of the movie. Since Rocky doesn’t speak English, Grace and Rocky must find a way to communicate. Eventually, Grace builds a device using two laptops that translates Rocky’s musical sounds into English.
Ultimately, Project Hail Mary shifts away from Rocky’s short musical communications, prioritizing clear English dialogue. Later in the film, after Ryland Grace has spent time on Erid and learned to understand Rocky, the musical speaking style returns, now with subtitles for viewers who don’t understand the Eridian language – and this is when a major surprise is revealed after the credits roll.
Once the credits finish rolling, there’s a sweet surprise: a little song from Rocky! Unfortunately, it’s sung in an alien language, so we can’t understand the exact words. It probably means something like “goodbye,” “hope you liked the movie,” or even Rocky’s signature phrase, “amaze amaze amaze!” But whether you’re a fan of the original book or new to the story, this little extra moment at the end of Project Hail Mary is a nice touch and makes sticking around after the credits worthwhile.
