Chinese game developer Genigods Lab, located in Suzhou, has revealed its upcoming single-player action RPG, GeniGods: Nezha. The game is heavily inspired by the popular title, God of War.
The game will be made using Unreal Engine 5 and specifically tailored for PlayStation consoles, developed with Sony’s assistance, as revealed in a press release and a private presentation attended by Push Square.
I was so excited to hear from Erdi Yao and Young Lui during a recent interview! They told us they’ve already sent a playable version of their game for the PS5 Pro to PlayStation China. And get this – it’s really showing off everything the console can do, including all the cool features of the DualSense controller, like its amazing haptic feedback!
It’ll also launch on PC.
GeniGods: Nezha reimagines a classic Chinese legend, letting you play as Nezha – now a strong and skilled female warrior.
The blurb explains:
Embark on an incredible adventure where you begin as a divine object and transform into the first human – a woman made of water and clay. You’ll eventually be reborn as the famous hero Nezha. Along the way, you’ll share a path with legendary figures like Yi, who brought down the sun, and Yu, who controlled the great flood. Guiding you is the Heart of Sacred Water, a gift from the goddess Nüwa – a living companion that grows with you, helping you solve mysteries, overcome challenges, and uncover the secrets of this new world.
Let’s be clear: this game isn’t like the Souls series. The combat is quick and smooth, and the developers say it’s most similar to God of War 3.
The game’s epic boss battles really stand out, with the developer promising smooth transitions between different environments, like moving between heaven and earth.
The game features powerful artifacts inspired by ancient China, similar to the Infinity Stones, and lets you fight bosses in any order you choose, much like in Mega Man. Between battles, you’ll return to a central hub where you can take on optional missions and improve your character’s skills.
Genigods Lab is best known for its mobile game based on My Hero Academia, created for Crunchyroll and Sony. However, their new game will be a full, single-player adventure – unlike their mobile title, it won’t rely on gacha elements or ongoing live service updates. Players can expect around 25 hours of gameplay for a standard completion, and roughly 50 hours to fully platinum the game.
Here’s the biggest surprise: even though the team has been working on this for two years, they don’t anticipate it launching until 2028. This means it might end up being released for the PlayStation 6 instead of just the PS5 and PC.
Even so, considering Sony’s backing and the clear inspiration from the God of War games, this is a title worth watching.
