Would you be willing to pay $30 a month for PS Plus Premium? Although Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus Premium aren’t identical-Xbox Game Pass generally has more new games available right away-that’s now the price you’ll pay each month for an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, starting today.
Microsoft has announced changes to its subscription service. They’re raising prices and launching three different plans – Essential, Premium, and Ultimate – which are similar to the options offered by PS Plus. Here’s a breakdown of how much each tier will cost:
- Xbox Game Pass Essential — $9.99 per month
- Xbox Game Pass Premium — $14.99 per month
- Xbox Game Pass Ultimate — $29.99 per month
Microsoft states these are improved subscription levels compared to their previous options. They’re highlighting their Xbox first-party games as a key benefit for the Premium and Ultimate tiers. With the Ultimate tier, you receive all new Microsoft-published games the moment they are released. However, the Premium tier doesn’t include this benefit; instead, it provides access to those same titles approximately a year after they launch.
Naturally, PS Plus doesn’t primarily offer brand new PS5 and PS4 games. Sony usually adds just a few new indie titles to the service when they are first released – Sword of the Sea and The Rogue Prince of Persia are recent cases. Despite this, there’s still a significant difference in cost between the two subscription tiers:
- PS Plus Essential — $9.99 per month
- PS Plus Extra — $14.99 per month
- PS Plus Premium — $17.99 per month
A yearly subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate costs $360. In contrast, PS Plus Premium is available for $160 for a 12-month period.
To explain the significant price hike, the most expensive Xbox Game Pass plan will now bundle in Ubisoft+ Classics – a service PlayStation Plus users have had access to for quite some time. It will also include a premium Fortnite subscription, Fortnite Crew, and the opportunity to earn up to $100 in Microsoft Rewards. This addition is intended to provide more value for the increased cost.
