Okay, so heads up for my fellow PlayStation Plus players! We’ve got about 24 hours to grab and play a Star Wars game that came out last year for free. After December 16th, the free access is gone. I know 24 hours doesn’t sound like much for a game, but this one’s pretty short – you can beat it in about 3 to 6 hours, so totally doable before the time’s up. If you’re on the Essential tier, you can skip this whole thing, because you don’t get the free Star Wars game anyway – it’s only for Extra and Premium subscribers. Also, if you don’t have the PlayStation VR2 headset, don’t worry about it at all – this game is VR only. Unlike some VR games, you can’t play this one with a regular controller and screen.
The Star Wars game being removed from PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium is Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge. It was originally offered to subscribers in December 2024 and will be leaving the service a year later. This game first came out in 2020, but was initially only available on Oculus Quest. It wasn’t released on the PlayStation Store until 2023.
About the Game
Despite being a Star Wars game created by the talented ILMxLAB and published by Disney, Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge hasn’t become hugely popular – which is common for VR titles. While critics gave it a respectable 73 on Metacritic, fans expect more from the Star Wars franchise. PlayStation users seem to enjoy it a bit more, giving it an average rating of 4.17 out of 5 stars on the PlayStation Store, where it’s priced at $40.
In this new Star Wars game, you play as a droid repair technician who crash-lands on the planet Batuu. You’ll complete missions in the surrounding wilderness, battle the Guavian Death Gang, sneak into a First Order base, and even journey to different time periods, creating your own unique Star Wars adventure.
The VR Star Wars game isn’t the only title departing from PlayStation Plus this month. A highly-rated game from the PS Plus Extra and Premium collections is also leaving tomorrow.
