PS1 Fans Have a New Remake of a Square Enix Game to Play Today

Square Enix fans have a fresh remake of a classic PlayStation 1 game to enjoy, starting today. We’ve seen many older PS1 titles get remade recently, and Square Enix has been involved in quite a few. Besides the popular Final Fantasy VII Remake, they’ve also remade Final Fantasy Tactics and are releasing a new version of Dragon Quest VII next week. Now, another Square Enix-linked game has been recreated, though this remake wasn’t developed directly by the company.

Okay, so I’m super excited – Front Mission 3, a classic PS1 strategy game, is finally back! It originally came out in 2000, made by Square before they became Square Enix. Interestingly, even though Square Enix still owns the Front Mission series, this remake isn’t actually from them. It’s being handled by Forever Entertainment, the team that already brought back the first two games. It’s available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, so I’m diving in!

Front Mission 3: Remake is a strategy RPG set in the future, where countries and companies battle for control using giant robots called Wanzers. The story follows Kazuki Takemura, and players’ choices early in the game lead to two different paths. Both storylines explore a worldwide plot involving hidden weapons, the pursuit of profit by corporations, and strong national interests.

This remake of Front Mission 3 features improved graphics and animations compared to the original game. The soundtrack has been completely redone, offering a fresh take on classic themes. New additions include a quick combat option to speed up battles and a customization system that lets players personalize the appearance of their mechs, called Wanzers.

So, I’m really hoping these remakes of the first three Front Mission games will get Square Enix to finally make a new one! It’s been a long 16 years since we last got a proper Front Mission game – Front Mission Evolved, to be exact. They did try a spin-off called Left Alive in 2019, but honestly, it was a disaster. Critics hated it, and it didn’t sell well, so I’m crossing my fingers this remake success will change things.
