The RPG series last seen on PlayStation 3 in 2017 is making a comeback with a third installment, continuing a story that began in 2013. However, this new game won’t be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, or any other traditional consoles. Instead, after nearly a decade of inactivity, the series is returning as a mobile game, planned for release sometime in 2026. Currently, it’s only confirmed to launch in Japan.
Okay, so Nippon Ichi Software is bringing back The Witch and the Hundred Knight with a new game, which is awesome! But… that’s all we know right now. Seriously, there’s no title, no trailer, not even a single screenshot. If you were hoping for something big after the mobile release, you’re probably feeling a little let down because there’s just nothing concrete to share. They haven’t even hinted at when we might get an update. All they’ve said is it’ll appeal to both old fans and new players, which honestly sounds like standard PR fluff.
For Long-Time Fans
Nippon Ichi Software announced they’re creating a game that will appeal to both existing fans and new players. They promised to share more details soon.
A Forgotten PS3 Series
The Witch and the Hundred Knight series has a dedicated fanbase, which is why a third game is being made after more than ten years. The first game, also called The Witch and the Hundred Knight, originally came out for the PS3 in 2013 and was later released on PS4 in 2015. While it received mixed reviews (a 53 on Metacritic), it was popular enough to warrant a port and a sequel in 2017, The Witch and the Hundred Knight 2. The sequel, a PS4 exclusive, scored a slightly better 61 on Metacritic. It’s unclear if the new game will continue the existing story, but the developers are aiming to attract new players, suggesting it might be a reboot of the RPG series.
