A well-loved open-world action game first released on the Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2009 might be getting a fresh new version. During the time both the Xbox 360 and PS3 were popular, many fantastic action games were available. Devil May Cry 4, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Assassin’s Creed, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Bayonetta, and countless others were released during that console generation, giving players a lot of great options. Now, it looks like one particular action game that many people still enjoy could be getting another release in the near future.
Recently, Activision’s Prototype got an unusual new update on Steam, and fans noticed it quickly. Considering Prototype was released over 15 years ago, a new patch for the PC version was quite strange and hinted that something might be happening with the game privately. The situation became even more interesting when fans investigated the update more closely.
Essentially, users on the Prototype subreddit found that the latest update included new test levels and other content that had been removed from the game files for various reasons. The update also added the names of developers from Iron Galaxy to the game’s credits. This is significant because Iron Galaxy is known for creating remasters, most recently Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4. The appearance of Iron Galaxy developers in the Prototype credits hints that they might currently be working on a remastered version of the game.
How Would This Remaster Be Different?

If Prototype is truly being remastered, it would be noteworthy for several reasons. First, the series hasn’t seen a new game in over ten years, with Prototype 2 from 2012 being the last installment. Given this long gap, many people thought that Activision might not be planning any future Prototype games and would simply leave the series as it is.
It’s important to remember that versions of Prototype and Prototype 2 are already available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, as they were re-released back in 2015. However, those releases from Activision were simply ports of the original games without any improvements to the graphics or gameplay. Because of this, a true remaster of Prototype would be greatly appreciated by fans now, as it could really showcase the power of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
Currently, it’s important to remember that a remaster of Prototype hasn’t been officially announced, so consider everything discussed here as speculation for now. However, there definitely seems to be something happening with Prototype at Activision, and we may not have to wait long to learn more.
