As of Sun, 10th Aug 2025, 12pm: It seems that the turbulent period for the PS3’s struggling PlayStation Store has come to an end. The service is now fully operational again, with no more error messages appearing.
In Europe, at least, we seem to have resolved our issues for now, and it appears that other parts of the globe are experiencing the same positive developments.
Fans can breathe a sigh of relief as the continuation of the last-generation console’s service is no longer in doubt. However, it’s important to keep in mind that if Sony ever plans to shut down their servers, they would need to provide ample notice ahead of time.
It seems that a glitch occurred at the storefront, which appeared to be swiftly resolved.
We’ll let you know if things start acting strange again.
Sony has attempted to close the PlayStation Store for the PS3 on previous occasions, but these attempts were strongly opposed by users and subsequently abandoned. Given that the system is now nearly 20 years old, whenever it encounters problems, fans often worry about its future.
For approximately 24 hours now, the storefront of the previous-previous generation console has been displaying maintenance error messages. This issue was initially reported by the site Delisted Games, and we’ve experienced it ourselves on the European PlayStation Store as well.
It’s not unexpected that there’s no current maintenance communication from the large Japanese company, as the PlayStation 3 isn’t a primary focus for them anymore.
It’s important to mention that the PS Vita hasn’t been causing us any problems, and similar issues have arisen and been fixed in the past.
It’s quite troublesome for Sony to manage the outdated design of the PS3, especially since their newer consoles have stopped allowing users to access old avatars they had previously bought. Could this issue be connected to the upkeep of the older system, even though it seems improbable?
It’s unlikely that the platform owner will shut down the PS3 network so soon, given the intense and powerful backlash the last time it happened. This issue seems more like a minor glitch that will be resolved quietly, perhaps by fixing a simple technical problem such as connecting the correct cable or cleaning a component with a puff of air.
