Action-adventure games have been a favorite among gamers for decades, with many classic series starting in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The Yakuza series, which began on PlayStation 2 in 2005, has become one of the most beloved action-adventure franchises ever. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and SEGA are releasing some exciting new content.
The popular Yakuza series is celebrating a major milestone with re-releases of some of its classic games. Fans can look forward to updated versions of Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2, which are remakes of the very first Yakuza titles. What’s more, players who already own Yakuza Kiwami 2 on PlayStation or Xbox will receive a free digital upgrade to the newest versions on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
PS4 and Xbox One Gamers Can Upgrade to Next-Gen Version of Yakuza Kiwami 2 For Free

Originally released in 2017, Yakuza Kiwami 2 was a remake of the classic Yakuza 2 game from the PlayStation 2. While it stays true to the original story, it includes new content and updated gameplay. Now, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Yakuza series, SEGA is releasing an upgraded version of Yakuza Kiwami 2 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Best of all, some players will be able to get it for free.
This updated version of Yakuza Kiwami 2 doesn’t have major differences from the other 20th anniversary Yakuza games, but it does offer several improvements. Players will now be able to enjoy the game in French, Italian, German, Spanish, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and Russian. Plus, it’s launching on next-generation consoles for the first time, promising better performance.
If you already have a digital copy of Yakuza Kiwami 2 on PS4 or Xbox One, you can get the updated version at no cost. However, this only applies if you upgrade within the same console family – meaning your Xbox One version won’t get you the PS5 version. But, getting an upgrade for free is a great deal!

As a big Yakuza fan, I was really excited to hear about the updates! If you already own the original Yakuza Kiwami, you can upgrade to the updated version for just $1.99 – it’s a steal, and they’re adding some extra songs that weren’t in the Western release. They’re also releasing Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut, which is a beefed-up version of the game I love. Good news is, if you already have Yakuza 0, you can get the Director’s Cut for $14.99 instead of the full $49.99 price.
On December 8th, updated versions of Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut, Yakuza Kiwami, and Yakuza Kiwami 2 will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam.
