As a devoted PlayStation fan, I’ve found myself in a puzzling predicament: a highly-anticipated PS4 exclusive, one that Sony has published and owns, has mysteriously vanished from the PlayStation Store in regions like the US, UK, and Europe. Despite my fervent hopes for an explanation, there’s been absolutely no word from Sony regarding this unexpected removal. Oddly enough, the game is still available on the Japanese PlayStation Store, adding another layer of intrigue to this situation.
The game under discussion is Entwined, a title developed by Pixelopus and PlayStation, initially launched back in 2014. For those unfamiliar, Pixelopus was once a California-based studio owned by Sony, which unfortunately ceased operations in 2023. Prior to its closure, it released Entwined in 2014 and later Concrete Genie in 2019. While Concrete Genie can still be found on the PlayStation Store, Entwined is no longer available.
Initially, Entwined debuted on PS4 on June 9, 2014. Later on, Sony made it available for both PS3 and PS Vita as well. If you hadn’t heard of this game, it’s because it came and went with minimal attention. Unfortunately, it didn’t sell well and wasn’t popular among players, as shown by its 59 rating on Metacritic. Although most PlayStation users probably won’t even realize it’s gone, the fact that it didn’t make a lasting impact is not a positive sign for future releases.
The individuals who already possess the game will retain ownership and can enjoy it at their leisure. On the other hand, those who don’t own it won’t have the chance to buy it currently. However, it’s available on PS Plus Extra at the moment. If this removal isn’t a mistake, then its availability might change soon.
As of now, Sony hasn’t said anything about this recent event. Should there be any updates, we’ll make sure to reflect them in our story. It appears that Entwined’s removal from sale isn’t due to any obvious licensing issues or multiplayer server requirements. However, if it is an error, it’s a quite unusual one, making this explanation less probable as well.
