The impressive action RPG, The God Slayer, which is coming to PS5, was originally revealed as part of Sony’s China Hero Project.
However, its recent release on platforms like PC and Xbox Series X|S indicates it’s no longer being developed exclusively with PlayStation’s support.
Okay, so I’m still hyped because this game is coming to PS5, and the previews look amazing! It’s got this really cool mix of classic East Asian style and steampunk, which is something I haven’t really seen before. It’s totally unique, and I can’t wait to see more.
Pathea Games, known for My Time at Portia, is creating this new game, and it’s much more ambitious than their previous work. They initially aimed to release it in 2027, so it’s still several years from being finished.

Here’s how the blurb introduces the game:
Explore a stunning steampunk city inspired by the East, ruled by powerful, god-like beings called Celestials. In this expansive open-world RPG, you play as an Elemancer – a master of elemental powers – who dares to defy their rule. Driven by a thirst for revenge, you’ll embark on a quest to overthrow the Celestials and become known as the God Slayer.
The initial gameplay reveal is incredibly impressive. Players take control of Cheng as he moves through a bustling city and fights against enemies called Celestials.
Battles involve close-quarters fighting, but you’ll use elemental powers throughout. For example, you can soak enemies with water, freeze them solid, and then finish them off with fire. The trailer suggests a huge variety of ways to combine these abilities.
Here’s what the trailer says:
The elements – fire, water, earth, and steam – all react with each other in predictable ways: fire burns wood, water puts out fire, steam forms from heated water, and earth can block things. How you use these interactions in combat is your choice.
The game’s elemental interactions are reminiscent of Genshin Impact, but it offers a more complex experience than just combat. Unlike Genshin Impact, this is a traditional, full-price single-player game, not a free-to-play title with ongoing updates.
What really sets this apart is its steampunk style, hinted at in the trailer. You can see it in things like the huge mechanical enemy, the airships, and all the intricate clockwork technology.
The setting is truly special – it feels both recognizable and wonderfully imaginative. We’re very impressed with how it all comes together.
