A game that was only available on the PlayStation 5 will no longer be playable starting soon, about four years after it first came out. While this doesn’t affect players on Nintendo, Xbox, or the older PlayStation 4, it will impact PC gamers. This news wasn’t unexpected, as the game’s development stopped in 2023, just a year after its release, though its servers stayed active until now.
The free-to-play game Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt will officially shut down on April 28, 2026 – almost four years after its initial release on April 27, 2022. This means players on PC and PlayStation 5 have around six months left to enjoy the battle royale. After that date, the game will no longer be playable and will be removed from online stores. While the developers, Sharkmob, haven’t stated a specific reason, it’s likely the cost of running the game’s servers became too high compared to the revenue it was generating.
Statement From Developer
In a statement about the game’s closure, Sharkmob said they could only dream that players would have the amazing experiences they did in Prague. They highlighted the intense rooftop battles and the friendships formed, adding that Bloodhunt truly came to life through the players and created countless unforgettable moments.
We’re incredibly grateful for the passion and dedication you’ve shown for Bloodhunt over the last four years. Your feedback, creativity, and enthusiasm have meant so much to us. Unfortunately, despite your amazing support, the game hasn’t attracted enough players to keep the servers running, so we’ve made the tough decision to shut Bloodhunt down.
You can no longer buy tokens before the shutdown, but you can still use any tokens you already have in the in-game store until the shutdown date.
About the Game:
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt is a battle royale game played from a third-person perspective, and it’s set within the world of Vampire: The Masquerade. Players take on the role of vampires, battling each other using both supernatural abilities and traditional weapons to become the last one standing.
When it launched, the free-to-play battle royale game received generally positive reviews – a score of 77 on Metacritic, 77% approval on Steam, and 4.11 out of 5 stars on the PlayStation Store. So, it’s not being discontinued because it’s a poorly made game, but rather because it couldn’t quite compete with the many other similar games available.
This is disappointing news for PlayStation players, especially since another game exclusive to PS4 and PS5 was recently removed. However, with the way games are licensed and rely on online servers today, it’s becoming more and more frequent to see games shut down or removed from sale.
