There’s been talk that Sony was working on a new DualSense controller that would let you easily swap out the battery, but those reports might not be true, or at least not happening anytime soon.
I first heard about this from a Polish site called PPE, and they’ve been right about stuff before, so I initially thought it might be true. But honestly, it’s starting to look like the information got messed up somewhere along the way – maybe something didn’t translate correctly.
Reports initially suggested the new controller would come with the updated PS5 Pro. However, a detailed examination of the new system by tech vlogger Austin Evans (first noted by Insider Gaming) proves this isn’t true.

Evans points out the device uses a different battery, but it’s not the simple, user-replaceable type that was initially suggested.
This doesn’t completely dismiss the rumor, and Sony could still release a DualSense controller with a replaceable battery. However, we think they’d prefer you just buy a new controller instead.
The PS5 Pro doesn’t have major hardware changes. The main difference is that it’s slightly lighter than earlier versions.
Sony usually improves its products through ongoing adjustments, so this isn’t unexpected.
Historically, the company making the PlayStation has been able to lower prices for customers. However, with current inflation, a lack of computer chips, and taxes on imports, the different versions of the PS5 actually cost *more* today than when they first came out.
And that’s an issue that’s not only affected Sony, but all console manufacturers. Crazy.
