A new game has quietly launched as a PlayStation 5 exclusive and is available to download for free. While typically ‘console exclusive’ means a game is only on one console, this title is also playable on PC. Sony recently hinted it might stop releasing its biggest games on PC, except for those designed as ongoing online services. Interestingly, this particular exclusive isn’t a Sony-made game – it’s from Konami. It’s a bit unclear why it’s exclusive now, but the game series has often been linked to PlayStation consoles in the past.
Konami has launched eBaseball: Pro Spirit, a free-to-play baseball game and the latest installment in their long-running Professional Baseball Spirits series. While the series is traditionally popular in Japan, this new game is also available in the US and other Western markets, filling a gap as there aren’t many competitors to MLB The Show right now. Players with the PS5 Pro can also enjoy enhancements specifically designed for the console, though details about those improvements haven’t been released.
“MLB The Show Has a New Challenger”
Initial reactions to eBaseball: Pro Spirit are looking good. It currently has a 3.83 out of 5-star rating on the PlayStation Store, based on 273 user reviews. That’s a pretty strong score, especially considering the game is free to play, meaning anyone can try it out. Free games often receive lower ratings than paid games, so this is a positive sign. Plus, the comments on the game’s YouTube trailer suggest people are excited about its potential.
One commenter noted the game’s graphics and physics are a noticeable improvement over The Show. Another expressed excitement about Konami creating an English baseball game, suggesting MLB now has some competition.
Just so you know, you’ll need a PlayStation Plus subscription to play the game online. However, it does have a single-player mode you can enjoy offline. The game is also available on PC through Steam, and players there seem to like it just as much – it currently has a 75% positive rating based on 69 reviews.
