PS5 Exclusive Remake of Iconic PS1 Game Leaks on PSN

A popular game originally released on the PlayStation 1 in 1997 is reportedly coming to the PlayStation 5. While the game has been available on PC and Quest since 2024, it hasn’t been released on any consoles – until now, potentially. Leaks suggest the PS5 will be the first console to get this updated version, which makes sense given the game’s history as a PlayStation exclusive.

A PlayStation 5 version of the classic 1997 adventure game, Riven, appears to be on the way. While not officially announced, Trophy data for the game has recently appeared on the PlayStation Network, suggesting a release is coming soon. Typically, game Trophies aren’t added to PSN until just before launch, making this discovery a likely leak.

1997’s Best-Selling Game

If you haven’t played Riven, it’s the follow-up to the famous 1993 adventure game, Myst. Like the original, it was a groundbreaking game, particularly for consoles. When it came out, Riven received a good score of 85 on GameRankings. Even more remarkably, it became the best-selling game of 1997, despite only being available on PC and PlayStation.

The remake was developed by the same team that completely rebuilt the original game, and they’ve also made it compatible with virtual reality. This strongly suggests it will be a game for PlayStation VR 2, as well as PlayStation 5. This likely explains why it won’t be released on Xbox Series X or Nintendo Switch/Nintendo Switch 2, as those consoles don’t support VR.

Considering the original Riven was first released on PlayStation, it’s logical that a new version is coming to the PS5, where it’s expected to do well. It’s odd, though, that the 2020 remake of Myst skipped PlayStation consoles entirely, appearing only on Xbox and PC. While the very first Myst game is still available on the PlayStation Store, the remake isn’t. Now, the situation is flipped – Riven is coming to PlayStation while Myst hasn’t.
