A role-playing game that was supposed to be exclusive to the PlayStation 5 has reportedly been cancelled just over a year after it was first announced. Sony, like Nintendo, focuses on creating and obtaining games that you can only play on their consoles. However, the PS5 hasn’t had many exclusive titles, especially when compared to the PS4, which many consider Sony’s strongest period for exclusives. Right now, if you’re not a fan of Marvel and looking forward to Marvel’s Wolverine, there aren’t many announced PS5 games coming in 2026 that are generating a lot of excitement. While games like Saros and Phantom Blade Zero are in development, they aren’t major, blockbuster releases. This news is particularly disappointing for RPG fans, as it means the future lineup of exclusive PS5 games is looking even weaker.
Rumors suggest the PlayStation 5 exclusive RPG, Ballad of Antara, may have been cancelled, which would be unexpected given it was only revealed in May 2024. The game was initially planned for a 2025 release, and since that year has passed with no updates or even a delay announcement, it seems something has gone wrong. Publisher Infold Games and developer TipsWorks have been completely silent, hinting at potential issues behind the scenes.
Fantasy PS5 Game Supposedly Cancelled
Despite ongoing speculation – including old rumors from last year about the game being cancelled – a concept artist who worked on the project recently claimed it was cancelled in a post on X (formerly Twitter). Both the post and the artist’s X account have since been deleted.
Keep in mind that this information isn’t confirmed or official. However, if true, cancelling the game would be significant, especially this late in the development process. Although Sony isn’t publishing the game, they’re still involved in some way – the game did get a presentation at a State of Play event. There was a lot of initial enthusiasm for the project too, as the announcement trailer has a very positive like-to-dislike ratio – over 1,300 likes compared to only 53 dislikes.
So far, no one involved has spoken about what’s happening. We don’t anticipate that changing, but we’ll update this story if they do. In the meantime, we welcome your thoughts in the comments below, or you can join the conversation on the ComicBook Forum.
