From March 31st, PlayStation 5 players will be able to experience South of Midnight, the visually impressive action adventure game developed by Xbox studio Compulsion Games. The game is known for its unique take on Southern folklore and storytelling.
I was so blown away by this game! It actually won an award – the Games for Impact award at The Game Awards in December, which is awesome. You play as Hazel Flood, and the story really pulls you in when a huge hurricane hits her town, Prospero, and things get seriously strange and Southern Gothic. It’s a really powerful experience.
Here’s the official blurb:
Playing as Hazel, you’ll journey through a strange and haunting world inspired by Southern legends and encounter the creatures within. After a disaster hits her town, Hazel discovers she’s a Weaver – someone with the magical ability to heal broken connections and spirits. With these powers, she must battle dangerous beings, uncover secrets from her family’s history, and hopefully find a place where she truly belongs.
Our friends over at Pure Xbox really liked this game. In fact, Ben Kerry gave it a 9 out of 10 when it came out last year.
He wrote:
I really enjoyed South of Midnight – it’s exactly the kind of game I’d love to see more of from Xbox Game Studios. While the combat isn’t the strongest part, the game is full of personality, charm, and heart, making it incredibly captivating. I was completely drawn in by the beautiful storybook art style, the well-told story, and how fun it was to move around the world. It’s a fantastic value on Xbox Game Pass, and I highly recommend it. If you prioritize action-packed combat, this might not be for you, but if you’re looking for a truly engaging adventure with a lot of heart, don’t miss South of Midnight.
This game should satisfy those looking for a strong single-player story, which is what many PS5 owners really want these days.
Will you be picking it up?
