PS5 Players Will Want to Watch Xbox’s Developer Direct, Confirmed for January

Microsoft has very quietly announced an Xbox Developer Direct, taking place in January 2026.

According to a new report from Variety, Xbox head Matt Booty has confirmed an upcoming showcase event. He also shared that one of Xbox’s development studios will be presenting its latest projects.

As a huge fan, I was listening to what Booty said, and it sounds like next year is going to be massive! He wouldn’t give specifics, but he hinted they have so much cool stuff planned that they can’t even show it all at Dev Direct. Apparently, Dev Direct is usually about showing off the year ahead, and this year they’ve really outdone themselves – it’s going to be packed!

He stated that Playground Games, the studio behind the upcoming Xbox games Fable and Forza Horizon 6, will also be involved. Forza Horizon 6 is already set to launch on PlayStation 5 as well.

Okay, so here’s the scoop: Playground Games is going to be at the Dev Direct! But honestly, we’ve got so much planned for next year that we couldn’t possibly show it all in just one presentation in January. It’s a good problem to have, though – it means we’re working on a ton of cool stuff!

In 2026, Xbox will celebrate its 25th anniversary, and Microsoft Gaming CEO Matt Booty anticipates it will be a significant year for the brand.

We have several major franchises celebrating big anniversaries soon, like Bethesda’s 40th and Blizzard’s 35th. Diablo is also turning 30! We’ve already announced plans for a Halo: Combat Evolved collection, and we have a lot more exciting things coming next year. Overall, it’s going to be a fantastic year for our brands and our most popular franchises, with a lot of visibility across the gaming industry.

Xbox is starting 2026 with a major presentation that PlayStation 5 owners will also want to check out.
