Initially priced at $700 upon its launch last year, the PS5 Pro left many PlayStation enthusiasts questioning its value. This year, Sony upped the price to $750, further fueling skepticism about the console’s worth. The high price tag is challenging to justify because the technology in the PS5 Pro isn’t fully being utilized. Most TVs don’t support the capabilities of the PS5 Pro, and the vast majority of games released for the PS5 do not offer enhancements specifically designed for the PS5 Pro. Even Sony itself has developed games without any PS5 Pro optimization. This is a problem that the console has been facing, and it’s become particularly apparent this week.
In September’s most highly anticipated launch, and one of the year’s biggest releases in 2025, the exciting game titled “Borderlands 4” hit the shelves this week. This new addition has been receiving reviews comparable to its forerunner, “Borderlands 3”, that are generally positive. However, players on the PS5 Pro might want to postpone diving into the latest looter-shooter, as there are currently no enhancements exclusive to the PS5 Pro version of “Borderlands 4”. It’s unclear at this time whether the PS5 Pro version offers any improvements over the standard PS5 version.
“Disappointed”
On the dedicated post about game performance on the r/PS5Pro subreddit, it’s good to know that Borderlands 4 generally runs well on PlayStation 5 Pro. There are some rendering issues and occasional frame rate hiccups, but these seem to be consistent across all platforms. It’s worth noting that the split-screen experience is said to be poor, with both resolution and frame rate problems. However, since many players don’t utilize this feature, it might not significantly impact the overall gaming experience for most users.
It’s expected that all these issues will be addressed in the forthcoming weeks. However, it seems improbable that PS5 Pro upgrades will appear within this timeframe. Even if Gearbox surprises us by introducing PS5 Pro compatibility earlier than anticipated, it doesn’t alter the fact that PlayStation enthusiasts are disheartened over its absence at launch. In fact, one comment on the relevant post expresses strong dissatisfaction, describing it as “shocking.
In a vacuum, it might appear extraordinary that a major launch lacks PS5 Pro compatibility, but in reality, this is often the case, leaving many PlayStation enthusiasts disgruntled with the console. Although there are instances where PS5 Pro enhancements were incorporated into games post-release, such as the Silent Hill 2 Remake, there are numerous examples where this did not occur.
