Owners of the PlayStation 5 Pro are expected to receive a long-awaited upgrade soon. Sony announced last year that they were improving PSSR, a key technology for the PS5 Pro. While the update was originally planned for sometime in 2026, it now appears it will be released earlier in the year, much to the relief of eager players.
According to @Gust_Fan, a reliable source of PlayStation news on X, the upgraded PS5 Pro is expected to launch between January and March 2026. This major update, called PSSR 2.0, promises to improve both graphics and performance in games. Excitingly, it’s also rumored that older PlayStation games will receive graphical enhancements, making them look better than ever on the new console.
Details about the PS5 Pro upgrade are still emerging, but it’s a much-needed improvement. Since the release of the upgraded PlayStation 5 last year, some games – particularly those made by companies other than Sony – have surprisingly performed worse on the Pro than on the regular PS5. This is mainly because developers are still learning how to best use the Pro’s advanced technology. With this update, hopefully those issues will be resolved, making the PS5 Pro a truly premium experience for PlayStation fans.
