Starting April 2nd, the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation Portal will cost more due to ongoing global economic challenges. The price increase will affect customers in the US, UK, Europe, and Japan. The new price for the PS5 will be $649.99 in the US, £569.99 in the UK, €649.99 in Europe, and ¥97,980 in Japan – an increase from the previous prices of $549.99, £479.99, €499.99, and ¥79,980.
The PlayStation 5 Digital Edition will be priced at $599.99 (US), £519.99 (UK), €599.99 (Europe), and ¥89,980 (Japan). The PlayStation Portal will cost $249.99, £219.99, €249.99, or ¥39,980. However, the price of the PS5 Pro is increasing significantly – from $749.99 to $899.99 next week – which might lead some to consider waiting for the PlayStation 6 instead.
The price is now £789.99 in the UK (previously £699.99), €899.99 in Europe (up from €799.99), and ¥137,980 in Japan (increased from ¥119,980).
The publisher explained that changing prices was a difficult but necessary decision to keep providing players around the world with great, new gaming experiences. They also noted that, unlike some other companies like Nintendo, they aren’t charging different prices for physical and digital copies of games, even though the cost of making physical copies, like Blu-ray discs, is expected to increase significantly soon.
Price increases for PlayStation consoles aren’t new. The standard PS5 became more expensive in Europe, Canada, Japan, and other areas in 2022 because of rising global inflation. Japan saw another price hike in August 2024, and last year, the United States also experienced increases – the PS5 went from $499.99 to $549.99, and the PS5 Pro rose from $699.99 to $749.99.
