PS5 Sales Now Top 84.2 Million Units, Well on Way to 100 Million Milestone

Sony sold 3.9 million PlayStation 5 consoles between July and September, bringing the total number of PS5s sold to over 84.2 million. The console is now well on its way to reaching 100 million units sold.

We sold 100,000 more units compared to last year, but overall system performance hasn’t improved. This is happening even though prices have increased and the economy is facing difficulties.

PlayStation saw growth across almost all areas of its business. Sales of games made by its own studios – including the popular title Ghost of Yotei – increased from 5.3 million to 6.3 million units compared to the previous year.

The number of people using the platform each month increased from 116 million to 119 million at the end of the quarter. This growth sets the company up for a strong holiday season, and they’re aiming to exceed their previous record of 129 million users.

Sony sold a total of 80.3 million game copies for both the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 this quarter, a considerable increase from the 77.7 million copies sold during the same quarter last year.

Okay, so the company’s doing pretty well! Sales are up compared to last year, which is awesome, and even though operating income dipped just a little, it’s nothing major. We’re all hoping for a really strong holiday season, and they’ve got a new marketing push planned for Christmas, so fingers crossed that helps!
