PS5 Tops 92.2 Million Shipments Worldwide

Sony originally aimed to sell 90 million PlayStation 5 consoles by the end of 2025, but they exceeded that goal. Recent financial reports show they shipped 92.2 million consoles worldwide. While sales remain strong, shipments slowed slightly during the last three months of the year, with eight million consoles shipped – a decrease of 1.5 million compared to the same period last year.

PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 game sales totaled 97.2 million, a 1.3 million increase from last year. Games made by Sony themselves accounted for 13.2 million of those sales, up 1.6 million. This is largely thanks to successful titles like Ghost of Yōtei and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach; Ghost of Yōtei sold 3.3 million copies in just over a month after release.

Digital game sales made up 76% of total sales, which is 2% higher than last year. As of September 30, 2025, PlayStation Network had 132 million monthly active users – a gain of three million.

Sony is keeping its commitment to release big, story-driven games every year, starting with Saros in April and Marvel’s Wolverine later in 2024. Rising costs for RAM have led to speculation about whether Sony might increase the price of the PS5 or postpone the development of the next PlayStation (PS6). However, Sony hasn’t addressed these rumors, so we’ll have to wait for more information.
