PS5’s God of War Laufey Dominated Summer Game Fest

Okay, so Level Up, the folks who track this stuff, are saying that the God of War spin-off, Laufey, totally stole the show at Summer Game Fest. It wasn’t even close – it really dominated everything else people were talking about.

To be clear, when we say ‘Summer Game Fest’ here, we mean all the gaming presentations from last week – including both the State of Play and the Nintendo Direct.

The research firm collates trailer views, streaming performance, press coverage, and community sentiment to create a kind of engagement index, which the Santa Monica Studio title topped by quite some margin during the livestreams.

Sony’s State of Play was obviously the first event of the week, so had a lot more time to accumulate engagement – although it has fared particularly well, attracting more than 7.2 million views on PlayStation’s YouTube channel alone.

The company reports that the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Switch 2 was the second most popular title, followed closely by Resident Evil Veronica and Marvel’s Wolverine. Gears of War: E-Day also generated significant interest, and it’s interesting to consider how much of that is due to the game being exclusive to the console.

Honestly, I was really surprised to see Until Dawn 2 at number 10 on the list! It feels like that game hasn’t gotten the attention it deserves, so seeing it do so well is awesome.

Interestingly, both Persona 6 and Kingdom Hearts 4 generated more online buzz than Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, despite Rebirth being saved for the grand finale of Geoff Keighley’s presentation.

Finally, Spyro: A Realm Beyond came in ninth, showing that people are still really excited for more games featuring the purple dragon.

All in all, the index does look largely reflective of what I’d expect coming out of Summer Game Fest, and with three Sony games on the list, it looks like it was a good week for PS5 overall. In fact, eight of the ten games on this list will all launch day one on the PS5.
