PS5’s Power Users Are Spending More Than Ever, and PS Portal Proves It

With RAM prices increasing, Sony has indicated it plans to generate more revenue from its most dedicated players.

The thing is, that’s something it’s been successful at all generation.

The PlayStation 5 is already the most financially successful console Sony has ever created, and a recent announcement about the PS Portal caught our attention.

I was really interested to see PlayStation share some behind-the-scenes numbers on their blog – it’s not often they give us a peek at how their consoles and services are actually doing! It’s cool to get a little more insight into what’s going on with PlayStation.

PlayStation’s Takuro Fushimi shared that PS Portal streaming usage has more than doubled in the past year – it’s up 162% since the feature was added.

Here’s the most noteworthy part: he also mentioned that half of the people who own a PS Portal are signed up for Sony’s top-tier subscription, PS Plus Premium.

About 7% of people who own a PlayStation 5 have also purchased a PS Portal. Of those PS Portal owners, roughly half also subscribe to PlayStation Plus Premium.

This shows that PlayStation’s most dedicated players are spending more on Sony games and hardware than they have in the past.

The PlayStation 4 didn’t offer a device like the PS Portal, and it didn’t have a high-end subscription service like PS Plus Premium either. This means people are currently spending more money on PlayStation than they did with the previous console.

Sony will be able to see the detailed data, but even from this limited view, it’s clear they’re finding ways to make more profit from their existing customers rather than attracting new ones.

Although it might not look appealing at first glance, most customers are actually quite pleased with these products. The PS Portal, in particular, has been very popular, and people are enjoying the streaming features.

This company is a great example of how focusing on customer value can also lead to much higher profits.
