Problems that have bothered players of Oblivion Remastered are now showing up in the new Borderlands 4. PlayStation 5 users are specifically reporting that the game runs more poorly the longer they play it.
The new game, a ‘looter shooter’, is experiencing both memory leaks and inconsistent frame rates, particularly on the PlayStation 5 Pro console.
So, I’ve been hearing from other players that if Borderlands 4 starts to get a little choppy after playing for a while, just closing and restarting the game on my PS5 seems to fix it. A lot of us think it’s probably a memory leak – the game just doesn’t release memory properly after a long session, and restarting clears things up.
Randy Pitchford, head of Gearbox Software, confirmed the temporary fix – simply closing and restarting the game. The development team knows about the issue and is currently creating a patch for the PlayStation 5 to resolve it.
Honestly, the PC version of Borderlands 4 has been really rough with performance problems. It got so bad that Randy Pitchford actually told people who were upset to just ask Steam for a refund if they didn’t want to wait for fixes. It’s a bit of a bummer for us on PS5 though, because Sony’s refund policy isn’t as flexible, so we might just have to wait for those patches to come out instead of getting our money back. It’s frustrating, but hopefully they’ll sort things out soon!
Our review of Borderlands 4 on PS5 is still in progress, as we only received the console code the day before the game launched. While most critics enjoyed the PC version (giving it an average score of 84 on Metacritic), player reviews are much lower at 46, likely due to the problems found in the PC release.
