Rachel McAdams Reacts to Send Help Costar Dylan O’Brien’s Prior Crush

It’s not Rachel McAdams’ fault Dylan O’Brien is like, in love with her or something.

As someone who follows celebrity connections, I was fascinated by what John Boyega shared with me recently! Ahead of the release of their new movie, Send Help, he confessed that he’d been secretly in love with his co-star since he was just twelve years old. It’s always sweet to hear about these long-held connections!

Upon hearing the revelation, the Mean Girls alum was shocked.

She reacted with disbelief and concern after the news broke at the film’s Los Angeles premiere on January 21st, saying, “This is going to make things awkward between us.”

The 47-year-old, who has two children with Jamie Linden, confessed she felt the same way, at least a little bit.

Rachel raved about her 34-year-old colleague, saying, ‘He’s amazing! I have a friendly crush on him. He’s a truly talented actor and always gives his best performance. Plus, he’s hilarious!’

As she put it, “He makes me giggle.”

Dylan, who has been dating model Rachael Lange since 2023, also told TopMob News that working with Rachel was a dream come true – even more exciting than he’d previously imagined.

Dylan said they used to be a big fan of Rachel McAdams’ early work, especially the movie Hot Chick. They described it as a childhood favorite and also mentioned loving Wedding Crashers and, of course, Mean Girls. Dylan added that she was a real inspiration to them growing up.

Although Dylan has a strong personal connection with Rachel, their characters in the film will have a much different relationship. Dylan plays Bradley, a businessman determined to undermine his coworker Linda, until a plane crash leaves them stranded together on a deserted island.

Despite this, the actors’ close friendship off-camera actually makes the movie even scarier. If you’re interested in other co-stars who had great chemistry but weren’t romantically involved, read on…

Emma Watson has revealed she had a childhood crush on her Harry Potter co-star, Tom Felton (who played Draco Malfoy). During the 20th anniversary reunion special, she admitted to falling in love with him on the set of the first film, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. She used to check the daily filming schedule hoping to see his name, and considered it a particularly good day when he was working. While Felton saw her more like a little sister, fans quickly began hoping for a real-life romance between the two after the special aired. However, Emma has clarified in an interview with British Vogue that they remain close friends, speaking weekly, and find the fan interest “sweet,” effectively dismissing any dating rumors.

Remember how Ross and Rachel seemed like they could have been a couple in real life? During the Friends reunion on HBO Max, Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer, who played the iconic couple, revealed they actually did have a crush on each other during the show’s first season. David explained that while they both liked each other, timing never worked out because one of them was always dating someone else, and they respected those boundaries. Jennifer recalled joking that it would be awkward if their first kiss was on national television – and that’s exactly what happened, right in the coffee shop! Instead of pursuing a real-life romance, they focused all of their feelings into portraying Ross and Rachel’s relationship.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet are one of the most beloved on-screen couples ever, and fans have hoped they’d be together since their 1996 film, Titanic (despite the infamous door situation!). They’ve remained close friends ever since, with Kate recently sharing that they share a lifelong bond. Over the past twenty-plus years, from red carpet appearances at the 1998 Golden Globes to DiCaprio sweetly supporting Winslet during her emotional 2009 Golden Globes acceptance speech, it’s clear their connection has only deepened – and nothing, not even an iceberg, could keep them apart.

The intense chemistry between the actors in the 2019 film A Star Is Born, and their public appearances together promoting it, led many fans to overlook the fact that both were already in relationships at the time – Bradley Cooper with Irina Shayk and Lady Gaga with Christian Carano. Despite this, Gaga openly discussed feeling an immediate and strong connection with Cooper, saying she felt it “the second that I saw him.” This closeness was particularly evident during their performance of their Oscar-winning song, “Shallow,” at the 2019 Oscars, which happened shortly after Gaga ended her engagement.

Following their performance, Lady Gaga quickly dismissed rumors of a romance with Bradley Cooper, telling Jimmy Kimmel that the connection they displayed was intentional. Cooper, who later split from Irina Shayk that year, didn’t publicly address the speculation until November 2021, when he told The Hollywood Reporter that their performance was acted. He explained that their characters in the film were falling in love during that scene, and the passionate moment in front of a live audience would have felt awkward if it hadn’t been part of the performance.

For decades, fans have speculated about a possible romance between Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock after they starred together in 1994’s Speed. However, Sandra has repeatedly denied they were ever a couple. In an interview with Esquire, she playfully responded to the rumors, saying, “Nope…but who knows?” She explained that Keanu is someone who remains friends with all the women he’s dated, and that perhaps they could have made it work, but they never needed to. She cherishes their long-standing friendship, enjoying their ability to support each other and collaborate over the years.

The pair also starred together in 2006’s The Lake House and remain close friends. Sandra particularly appreciates Keanu’s ability to listen. She recalled a story from about a year after filming Speed, when she casually mentioned she’d never tried champagne and truffles. A few days later, Keanu surprised her by delivering both, along with flowers, simply explaining he thought she might like to try them.

Fans adore seeing Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone together on screen, having watched them as romantic leads in three movies, including La La Land.

Although they’ve never been a couple in real life, working together has created a strong connection between them. At a 2018 film festival, Emma shared how much Ryan means to her and how he’s influenced her life and career, calling him a “dear, wonderful friend.” She admitted she couldn’t imagine her life without him, adding that he’s truly special and it makes her emotional.

Before La La Land came out in 2016, Emma playfully joked that Ryan had to get a restraining order against her due to the number of films they’d made together.

Despite the joke, Ryan said he enjoys working with Emma, explaining that their familiarity allows them to bring out the best in each other in a way that wouldn’t be possible with a stranger.

Jim and Pam’s relationship on The Office is one of television’s most popular romances, with fans hoping they’d end up together throughout the show’s nine seasons. Despite the strong on-screen connection, actors John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer never became a couple in real life. However, Jenna once admitted that a part of her felt a genuine love for John, mirroring the characters they played. She described him as a long-time partner and someone she’ll always be close to, but clarified they weren’t a perfect match outside of the show.

John later responded to Jenna’s comments, telling The Daily Beast that he believed her words were taken out of context and that he felt bad she was misquoted. Their on-screen chemistry will always be fondly remembered by fans – a connection as memorable as the teapot from the show.

Bradley Cooper has faced romantic rumors with his co-stars before. His chemistry with Jennifer Lawrence in films like Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle led to years of speculation.

Back in 2015, Howard Stern directly asked Cooper when he and Lawrence would become a couple, joking that “everyone is waiting for that.” Cooper firmly replied that it would “never” happen, explaining that wasn’t the nature of their relationship.

Similarly, at the 2013 Golden Globes, Entertainment Tonight pressed Cooper about whether he and Lawrence were dating, to which he jokingly responded, “Oh my god. That’s very funny. No, my God, no.”

Although Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson starred together in the 2006 romantic comedy How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and fans were hoping they’d become a couple in real life, they never dated. In a 2020 interview with Howard Stern, Matthew explained that he generally avoids dating costars, preferring to keep things professional. He admitted there might have been some mutual attraction at times, but they always maintained a professional relationship.

And with that, the chance for their love to blossom died, just like that love fern.

These two famous friends have incredible chemistry on screen – think Ocean’s Eleven – and that connection clearly extends to their real-life friendship. They’re always laughing in interviews, giving each other glowing public praise, and George Clooney even lets the Roberts-Moder family use his beautiful home on Lake Como for their anniversary! It’s a testament to how close they are.

Every New Year’s Eve, people always speculate about whether best friends and CNN’s Live From Times Square co-hosts, Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen, have ever been more than just friends.

On Howard Stern’s radio show, Andy was asked why he hadn’t fallen in love with Anderson. He explained that their relationship is simply a strong friendship, and they’ve known each other for so long that romantic attraction isn’t part of the equation.

Interestingly, they were originally set up on a blind date over 25 years ago.

Anderson recalled on The Tonight Show that when straight friends try to match up two gay men, they often suggest they meet. He added that during a phone call to arrange the date, he realized within 45 seconds he wouldn’t be interested in pursuing anything romantic with Andy.

The dealbreaker? Andy immediately asked about Anderson’s mother, Gloria Vanderbilt – a major dating faux pas, according to Anderson.

Andy jokingly admitted he was excited about the possibility of dating someone from the Vanderbilt family!

Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt had a great time filming the 2009 movie 500 Days of Summer, but Joseph later said in a 2012 Playboy interview that dating her would have been awkward. He explained that they’d been friends for ten years and found it amusing that fans wanted them to be a couple. “Zooey and I just think it’s funny,” he said, adding, “It is funny.”

Before Zac Efron officially dated Vanessa Hudgens, many people thought he was involved with their close friend, Ashley. This speculation was made worse by a 2006 appearance on The Suite Life of Zack and Cody where they played love interests.

Even now, Zac and Ashley remain very close, with Ashley often referring to him as her “brother/best friend.” However, she jokingly named him as her worst onscreen kiss in an interview with Elle.

She explained that it felt awkward because they were so close, and he was more accustomed to the kissing styles on the CW network (where he worked at Warner Brothers) while they were on Disney Channel.

Ashley recalled that he tried to kiss her with his tongue, prompting her to firmly tell him to stop, reminding him that it was Disney Channel and kisses shouldn’t be that intense. She added that their close relationship, having already worked together and known each other for years, made the experience particularly strange.

Though they played a couple – Chad and Taylor – on High School Musical, Corbin Bleu and Monique Coleman remained close friends after leaving the Disney series.

They recently shared the screen again in the 2021 Lifetime Christmas movie, A Christmas Dance Reunion. Corbin shared on Instagram that working and dancing with Monique after 13 years felt like “coming home.” He also mentioned that starring in a Lifetime Christmas movie had always been a dream, and he never imagined he’d get to do it with someone he liked so much.

Monique is eager to work with her “best friend” again, telling People she hopes they’ll have more opportunities to collaborate. She believes they have a special on-screen chemistry, similar to iconic movie couples like Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, and Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, and she’s excited about the possibility of recreating that magic.

Despite playing TV’s famous on-again, off-again couple on The X-Files, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reportedly didn’t get along during filming. In a 2008 interview with Metro UK, David admitted they often argued during the show’s first eight years, explaining that becoming too familiar with someone can lead to irritation. He clarified it wasn’t about Gillian personally, saying they “used to argue about nothing” and “couldn’t stand the sight of each other.”

Despite their on-set friction, fans continued to root for Mulder and Scully to become a couple, both in the show and in real life. A photo from their lunch date in May 2021 went viral, which David found amusing. He told People that Gillian suggested they take a picture as he was leaving, and he was surprised to learn how much attention it received. He said it was “really cool” that people were still interested in their connection after so many years.

Fans who want to see a romantic relationship between Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans, take note! Though they’ve acted alongside each other in eight films since first working together in 2004’s The Perfect Score, the two stars have never dated in real life. However, they’ve become very close over the years. In a March 2020 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Scarlett explained that their on-screen chemistry comes from a decade of friendship and a deep understanding of each other.
