Rainbow Six Siege Taken Offline by Ubisoft Amid Major Hacking Issues

Hackers recently compromised Rainbow Six Siege, causing Ubisoft to temporarily take the game offline. The hackers reportedly manipulated in-game currency, falsely banned and unbanned players, and caused other disruptions. This happened shortly after the game celebrated its 10th anniversary and a major overhaul, which included a rebrand to Rainbow Siege X. Ubisoft recently made the game free-to-play and promised ongoing support and new content for years, signaling a long-term commitment to the Siege community. The overhaul included significant engine updates and the addition of new game modes.

Ubisoft has been very vocal about its opposition to cheating, and has worked hard to reduce hacking in Rainbow Six Siege. They’ve even publicly highlighted their efforts, showcasing the number of cheaters they’ve banned. However, hackers recently retaliated with a significant attack on the game during the holiday season.

Rainbow Six Siege Goes Offline After Hackers Take Control of Game

Starting on the evening of December 26th, players noticed huge amounts of in-game currency, called Renown, appearing in their Rainbow Six Siege accounts. While it might seem like a positive windfall, it quickly became a problem. Many players started receiving random bans, possibly triggered by trying to use the unexpectedly added Renown. Ubisoft is believed to be able to identify and punish unusual activity on the game’s marketplace.

I’m incredibly frustrated with Rainbow 6 Siege and Ubisoft. Hackers are making it impossible to play – my account keeps getting automatically banned by Ubisoft’s systems because of their activity. It’s ruined the game for me after 10 years of playing. Thanks a lot, hackers and Ubisoft.

I was so confused last night – I got banned from Siege three times in a row! It was especially weird because it happened during the week Ubisoft offices were closed for Christmas. If anyone else saw a ban message pop up last night, don’t worry, it seems like it was just a glitch on the servers and wasn’t a real ban!

Siege hacker puts entire script of song “wasn’t me” in the ban chat lmao

Strange messages started showing up on the game’s notification area, announcing player bans. Because of this, Ubisoft has temporarily shut down the servers for Rainbow Six Siege while they investigate and fix the issue.

Siege and the Marketplace are temporarily unavailable while our team works to fix a problem.

We don’t know when the issue will be fixed, but Rainbow Six Siege is currently unplayable. This is frustrating for players hoping to play over the holidays, especially those who received in-game currency as gifts. For now, you’ll need to find another game to enjoy.
