Nintendo’s Switch is still doing well, handheld gaming PCs are becoming more popular, and even the PS Portal is finding an audience, all suggesting people still want to play games while they’re on the move.
Dedicated handheld gaming devices like the PS Vita are largely a thing of the past. However, Nintendo has shown that people still want to play high-quality console games on the go.
Someone took this concept and really developed it, successfully turning a PlayStation 4 into a surprisingly compact, portable system.
I was totally blown away by something I saw on Reddit! A user named wewillmakeitnow actually managed to fit a full PS4 – like, the original one – inside a case about the size of a Steam Deck. It’s incredible!
To create this portable PS4, wewillmakeitnow took a PS4 Slim’s main circuit board and redesigned it to be as small as possible while still keeping all its features.
The device is reported to have an improved cooling system, a vibrant 7-inch OLED screen, and the ability to connect to a TV via HDMI.
It’s powered by rechargeable batteries that provide up to three hours of playtime, and you can also use it while it’s plugged in if needed.
There’s also a video of the device to prove it works:
It’s not planned to be sold, and was simply made as a “personal engineering challenge”.
Although it’s a bit bulky and doesn’t seem very comfortable to grip, it’s a really remarkable device. Being able to play your PS4 games on the go, directly on the device, would be fantastic.
For the past year, rumors have circulated about Sony developing a handheld gaming device that could play current games. It’s still uncertain if this is actually happening, but a recent achievement by a modder suggests it might be possible for Sony’s engineers to create such a device.
So, what are your thoughts on this handheld PS4? Would you be interested in a device like this? Let us know in the comments!
