Rapper Lil Tjay’s Attorney Denies He Was Involved in Offset Shooting

Lil Tjay‘s legal team is speaking out following his arrest.

Following the shooting of rapper Offset (born Kiari Kendrell Cephus) outside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Florida on April 6th, his lawyer responded to the arrest and charges brought against him by the Seminole Police Department related to the incident.

On April 7th, Dawn Florio posted on Instagram that her team was responding to reports about Lil Tjay’s connection to a shooting. She stated that the incident left Offset, a former member of the group Migos, with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Reports claiming Lil Tjay was shot or involved in a shooting are false. His team asks everyone to rely on credible news outlets and confirm information before sharing unverified rumors.

TopMob News has contacted Lil Tjay’s representatives and lawyer for a statement, but they haven’t responded yet.

On April 6th, Lil Tjay, whose legal name is Tione Merritt, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, specifically what’s known as “affray” under Florida law, according to a statement from the Seminole Police Department on April 7th. This is considered a first-degree misdemeanor.

Police have also held a second person, but haven’t filed any charges against them yet. They are still working to identify everyone involved in the incident. The person who was hurt is recovering at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Florida, with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

According to TopMob News, jail records show he was also charged with driving without a valid license. He’s currently out of jail after posting a $3,000 bond and is awaiting his court date for both offenses.

After the shooting around 7 p.m. Eastern Time near the valet parking area of the resort, a representative for Offset—who has three children with his former partner, Cardi B, and three other children from previous relationships—provided an update on his condition.

A representative confirmed to TopMob News on April 7th that he was shot and is now hospitalized. They stated he is in stable condition and under close observation.

This event happened three years after Takeoff, a member of the group Migos, was fatally shot outside a Houston club following a party with his uncle and fellow Migos member, Quavo. The loss is deeply affecting the “Stir Fry” rapper.

I’m finding it difficult to discuss this right now. I’ve never really talked about these things before, honestly,” he shared with Variety in November 2023. “It’s tough to talk about Take, and all of this in general. That’s why I usually avoid it.

He confessed, “There are things I keep to myself. He’s gone, and it feels unreal, like it’s not actually happening. I just try to get through each day, and I don’t talk about it with anyone.”
