As a huge fan, it was heartbreaking to hear about Rasmus Dahlin and Carolina Matovac going through such a difficult time. They’ve shared that they experienced a truly devastating loss while Carolina was dealing with her health scare, and my heart goes out to both of them.
Just months after receiving a heart transplant in France to address organ failure, the fiancée of a Buffalo Sabres player shared that she also experienced a miscarriage while battling for her health.
In an Instagram post on January 26th, Carolina shared her grief, writing, ‘Today was supposed to be the day we finally met you.’ She continued, expressing that their baby, though never born, would always be cherished as their first child. Carolina affirmed their endless love and explained that even though their baby didn’t get to live, they helped save her life.
Carolina, 25, explained that worrying about her pregnancy helped her realize she needed to take care of herself when she got sick while on vacation with Rasmus this summer.
She explained that if she hadn’t been worried about her health, they might not have gone to the hospital. Thankfully, that decision meant she was where she needed to be when she first experienced heart failure. She believes this was a key reason she survived and is now able to live a normal life again.
It broke my heart when she said it, but it was so true. She finished with, ‘You’re our hero, and I really hope someone is looking after you now, wherever you are.’ Then she whispered, ‘We all love you so much, little Matovac Dahlin.’ It was just… perfect, and said everything we all felt.
Carolina shared this update two months after receiving a life-saving heart transplant and expressing her gratitude.

In a post from November 2025, Carolina shared a powerful message: don’t take life for granted. She explained that things can change quickly – you might be enjoying a vacation one day and recovering from a transplant the next. Because life is so unpredictable and full of surprises, she encouraged everyone to savor every moment.
Hockey player Rasmus wrote in September that a summer trip to the South of France turned difficult when his partner, Carolina, became seriously ill. She required life support and eventually received an organ transplant.
The past few months have been incredibly difficult for us, but we’ve learned a lot from going through it,” the 25-year-old shared in a letter on the NHL website. “We’re thankful for all the support we’ve received and feel lucky to have so much love in our lives. We recognize how fortunate we are and will continue to grow from this experience.
