Game Source Entertainment, along with developers TVT and Ratata Arts, announced that a new update called “Descent of the Dark Ratatan” will be available for Ratatan on December 25th. This update adds a new storyline and events focusing on the Dark Ratatan.
Here is an overview of the update’s content, via Ratata Arts:
Descent of the Dark Ratatan
This update adds new events and battles focused on Dark Ratatan. We’ve heard your feedback that the game had too many battles, so we’re making changes to create a better mix of battles and story-driven events to help you progress.
Event Section: Episode 2 Unlock
Once you finish World 5, Episode 2 will begin, revealing more of the story. This new content is structured to slowly build up to bigger challenges like the Goddess Games and battles against Formidable Foes.
The Dark Ratatan events aren’t simply extra boss fights; they’re vital to the story and explore the heart of what Ratatan is about. They also work like elements of a roguelite game, changing how the story and gameplay connect and making them feel more unified.
So, about those cool stage tricks we saw on the roadmap… the team decided to roll them out as part of the Dark Ratatan event in December! It just makes more sense to focus all our energy on making that event really polished and awesome, instead of spreading things too thin. I’m totally okay with that – a focused, great experience is way better!
Battle Section: Dark Ratatan Fights
The battles against the Dark Ratatan are unique, differing from all other boss fights in the game. Besides attacking directly, the Dark Ratatan controls Dark Cobun using music, similar to how the Ratatan gives commands.
These enemies are among the toughest in the game, and beating them will earn players incredibly strong Mythic gear. We’re not releasing all of the Dark Ratatans in this update, but will be adding more over time with future releases.
One of the best parts of these battles is the brand-new music created just for Dark Ratatan, which really sets the mood. We think you’ll love hearing it!
New Ratakaruta Feature: Duo
Okay, so Ratakaruta is getting this new thing called Duo! Basically, if you level up two or more of your elemental powers enough, you unlock these super strong Duo Ratakaruta. Sounds awesome – I can’t wait to try it out!
This expands deck-building possibilities in two directions:
- Continued support for single-element builds.
- New incentives for multi-element, hybrid builds.
Duo cards are very strong, so starting with the December update, you’ll only be able to get one per game run. We’ll keep an eye on how this affects the game and might change the limit later on.
New Function: Goddess Gacha
As a player, I’m really excited about the Goddess Gacha! Basically, it lets me turn all those extra items I’m not using – like equipment, accessories, and materials – into points. Then, I can use those points to try for some cool stuff in the gacha. It looks like there will be some exclusive items you can only get through the Goddess Gacha, but honestly, it seems like a fun way to get rid of clutter and maybe get something awesome in return!
Multiplayer Adjustments
We’re updating the online random match lobby to improve usability. New features include:
- Ability to enter any available room.
- A refresh button for lobby listings.
New Legendary Accessories
We’re introducing a new, top-tier rarity for accessories: Legendary. These accessories come with random Decorune effects, giving players more options and complexity when customizing their builds.
I’m having a blast playing Ratatan right now – it’s in Early Access on Steam! The developers have told us that the full game is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC after this, which I’m super excited about.
