Ratcheteer DX launches March 5 for Switch, PC

The lo-fi pixel art action adventure game Ratcheteer DX is coming to Switch, PC, and Mac on March 5th. Panic and Shaun Inman, the publisher and developer, announced the game will cost $12.99, but will be available for a limited time at a launch price of $9.75. A demo is currently available on PC, and any progress you make in the demo will transfer over to the full game.

Ratcheteer DX is a remastered version of the 2022 game Ratcheteer, originally released for the Playdate. This updated version features color graphics with different filters, a high-quality stereo soundtrack, and support for more languages.

Here is an overview of the game, via Panic:

About

In Ratcheteer DX, you play as a young mechanic living underground in a world gripped by a perpetual, deadly winter that has forced humanity into hibernation. Explore diverse regions and dungeons, meet friendly characters, find useful tools, and battle tough bosses. This is an enhanced version of the popular 2022 Playdate game Ratcheteer, now featuring color graphics, visual filters, a high-quality stereo soundtrack, and support for multiple languages.

A harsh, icy winter has covered the world, forcing humanity to take shelter underground. You awaken as a young mechanic in the darkness to discover the power is out, and the life support systems for the underground colony are failing. The colony is in serious danger!

A quick errand to get your mentor’s wrench quickly turns into an epic adventure. You’ll travel through underground caverns and across a massive, icy landscape to save everyone – even those you wouldn’t expect.

As you progress, you’ll learn to use eight unique tools that will unlock new areas and abilities. You’ll begin with the Crank Lantern to see in the dark and the Wrench Sword to defend yourself, and eventually you’ll be able to jump, drill, glide, stomp, and dash your way through the world of the Ratcheteer.

This game first launched on the black-and-white Playdate, but this new version has been completely updated with full color graphics, a high-quality stereo soundtrack, and support for 10 different languages.
