Raven-Symoné is sharing her thoughts on one of her earliest mentors.
Lisa Bonet, who began acting on The Cosby Show when she was just three years old, recently spoke about the sexual assault allegations against Bill Cosby. She explained that she views his legal issues separately from his work as an actor.
She stated on the November 3rd episode of the Hate to Break It to Ya podcast that while he’s facing very serious accusations, that doesn’t justify it, but it’s a matter of his private life. She believes his personal life should be separate from his professional actions, and people should be aware of both.
During the discussion, Raven, age 39, pointed out the comedian’s positive impact on television, specifically noting that he was one of the first to actively hire Black people for behind-the-scenes roles on his shows.
She explained that while it’s now required, it used to be crucial – particularly on shows with a Black cast – to have representation both on screen and behind the scenes. Bill Cosby really emphasized that idea and encouraged it in everyone who worked with him.
Raven-Symoné shared that she still makes sure her projects have diverse voices and perspectives working on them, both in front of and behind the camera.
I brought it with me everywhere, starting with Disney, and honestly, after that, it went with me on almost every trip, even when it felt a little odd. I just needed to be able to see myself represented. I realized if I didn’t advocate for that, no one else would, so I made it a point to always bring it along.
TopMob News has reached out to Cosby’s attorney for comment but has not heard back.

Bill Cosby, now 88, was convicted in 2018 of sexually assaulting Andrea Constand in 2004 and sentenced to between three and ten years in prison. However, he was released in June 2021 when the Pennsylvania Supreme Court threw out his conviction. The court found that a previous prosecutor had made an agreement with Cosby that would have protected him from criminal charges in the case.
On the day of his release, Cosby issued a statement about the matter.
He stated that his position and account of events have remained consistent. He continues to assert his innocence and expressed gratitude to his fans, supporters, and friends for their support during a difficult time. He also thanked the Pennsylvania Supreme Court for respecting the legal process.
